At birth the lower extremity is characterized by a varus axis in the lower leg and the knee joint in the frontal plane (bowleg) and an increased femoral antetorsion and a neutral or increased medial torsion of the lower leg in the transverse plane. By the time growth is complete a normal valgus axis of 5-9 degrees has developed in the lower limb and the femoral antetorsion has decreased to about 15 degrees. BACKGROUND: Both clinical and postmortem diagnoses of posterior fossa anomalies remain difficult to make and to corroborate. This is particularly true for Dandy-Walker malformation and variant. Difficulties arise for a variety of reasons, including technical and methodological ones, but also because the conditions may overlap anatomically with others, most notably mega cisterna magna, Blake's pouch cyst, and posterior fossa (arachnoid) cysts. The current study was constructed to examine the similarities and differences in the quality of life of patients with kleptomania and pathological gambling (PG). Thirty patients with kleptomania, 43 with PG, and 30 normal control subjects were assessed with the Quality of Life Inventory that assesses self-reported satisfaction with life. Clinical and pathological diagnoses were compared in a prospective study of 145 dogs. A diagnostic work up had been performed on all dogs of which 36 (24.8%) died and 109 (75.2%) were euthanatized. In 119 dogs (82.1%) both a clinical and patholical diagnosis was made, in 20 dogs (13.8%) no pathological diagnosis could be made and in 6 dogs (4.1%) no clinical diagnosis was established.
