We studied the results of 140 STA-peg arthroereisis procedures performed for the treatment of planovalgus foot deformity in 78 ambulatory children with neuromuscular disease. Patient age at surgery ranged from 2 + 2 to 14 + 11 years, with a mean of 7 + 9 years. Patients were followed up for an average of 4 + 6 years. Sulcus deepening trochleoplasty is a technically demanding procedure with precise indications: high grade trochlear dysplasia with patellar instability and/or abnormal tracking. In traumatic dental injuries in children, due to a lack of maturity to cope with the situation, pain intolerance, amount of treatment procedure, and parental anxiety, simplified and non-invasive treatment procedures, such as biologic restorations, are useful. Using advanced adhesive material for fragment reattachment provides excellent esthetic results and a positive attitude from the patient and family. Prostatic urethral lift is a minimally invasive procedure used to improve the symptoms of benign prostatic enlargement. It utilizes the UroLift device to insert small implants through occlusive lateral lobes of the prostate, thereby creating an open anterior channel through the prostate. We describe a previously unreported complication of UroLift whereby a patient presented with loin pain post-procedure and was found to have a UroLift clip across the vesico-ureteric junction , leading to ureteric obstruction, hydronephrosis and calyceal rupture.

Hamstring muscle injuries (HMI) are common among athletes. HMI can take many months to years to resolve. Often, athletes do not report complete resolution with typical conservative therapy. We present several cases of athletes who presented with chronic hamstring injuries that resolved immediately after being treated with an ultrasound-guided fascial hydrodissection procedure. Following the procedure and graded rehabilitation protocol, athletes reported resolution of pain and tightness in addition to increased performance and a quicker return to play.

Ankle replacement systems have not been as reliable as hip replacements in providing long-term relief of pain, increased motion, and return to full activity. Supramalleolar Osteotomy is an extraarticular procedure that realigns the mechanical axis, thereby restoring ankle function. The literature discussing knee arthritis has shown that realignment osteotomies of the tibia improve function and prolong total knee replacement surgery. The success of the procedure is predicated on understanding the patient's clinical and radiographic presentation and proper preoperative assessment and planning.

Several techniques of patent ductus arteriosus occlusion primarily by thoracotomy have been practiced. They have shown to be more reliable than nonsurgical procedures. Videothoracoscopy has been useful in several intrathoracic surgical procedures with faster recovery and minimal mortality and morbidity. We report 2 patients with clipping and ligation of a patent ductus arteriosus by a thoracoscopic approach. This technique may be useful in children with a noncomplicated patent ductus arteriosus. It allows an easier recovery and causes less pain.

This manuscript describes a modified medial column arthrodesis involving the medial and intermediate naviculocuneiform joints, the first metatarsocuneiform joint and the first intercuneiform joint. Medial column stabilizing procedures are usually advocated as a component part of a generalized hypermobile flatfoot repair. This procedure, however, is being recommended for elderly or sedentary individuals who have medial column pain, difficulty ambulating and problems wearing standard foot gear secondary to end-stage medial column degenerative joint disease and medial column collapse.

The multiplicity of types of usage of the powered stapler system in podiatric surgery were explored. The stapler system reduces surgical time and trauma, especially with complex reconstructive and repair procedures. The expedited surgical procedures along with minimized surgical trauma and comfortably implanted staples improved healing rate and less postoperative pain. The important criteria and indications for the usage of powered stapler fixation were reviewed. This relatively new system offers an effective alternative for internal fixation in the foot and ankle.

BACKGROUND: The sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) is located with some degree of variability near the tail or posterior aspect of the middle nasal turbinate. This study was conducted to evaluate the two main surgical modalities, microvascular decompression (MVD) and gamma-knife radiosurgery (GK), the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia (TN) and outline for an algorithm for the selection of these procedures. The authors have identified distinct differences in the two treatment groups and formulated a scale that predicts the outcome and satisfaction of patients who underwent the procedures. This series included 34 TN patients treated in 2000 and 2001 with MVD (19) and GK (15). Patients with TN associated with tumor or multiple sclerosis were excluded.
