Examining the Contrast Avoidance Model to Understand the Association between Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Sleep Difficulties.

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) features excessive worry, paired with physiological arousal that causes distress and interferes with daily activities. Individuals with GAD symptoms often experience persistent sleep problems, which may worsen clinical outcomes. The Contrast Avoidance Model (CAM; Newman & Llera, 2011) posits that worry is used in GAD to avoid emotional shifts by perpetuating a negative state. Research has demonstrated the CAM uniquely explains GAD pathology and may similarly explain co-occurring sleep difficulties. To better understand the high rates of sleep difficulties in

Psychopathological profile in COVID-19 patients including healthcare workers: the implications.

OBJECTIVES: Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disorder with variable prognosis. Mortality arises from both organ-specific and demographic factors, but reliable baseline predictors remain incompletely defined. We aimed to describe long-term survival and causes of death, and to identify demographic, radiological, and clinical predictors of mortality in national cohort of patients with sarcoidosis. METHODS: Retrospective multicentre cohort study within the Spanish SARCOGEAS registry. Adults diagnosed according to the ATS/ERS/WASOG criteria were consecutively enrolled across 36 hospitals. D

Going to Altitude with a Preexisting Psychiatric Condition.

Psychiatric disorders have a high lifetime prevalence affecting about 30% of the global population. Not much is known about high altitude (HA) sojourns in individuals living with a psychiatric condition. This lack of scientific evidence contrasts with the anticipated increase in numbers of individuals with preexisting psychiatric conditions seeking medical advice on HA exposure. Not only are there risks associated with a HA climb, but physical activity in general is known to improve symptoms of many psychiatric disorder and enhance measures of mental well-being like quality of life and resilie

Integrated psychosocial, sleep, and immunonutritional intervention improves psychological adaptation, sleep disturbance, and inflammatory activation in rectal cancer: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Patients undergoing abdominoperineal or intersphincteric resection for low rectal cancer experience profound physiological and psychological stress. Conventional Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols mainly address surgical and metabolic factors but rarely target the host's psychosocial and immunometabolic recovery. STUDY DESIGN: In this single-center randomized controlled trial, 240 patients with stage II-III low rectal cancer (September 2019-September 2021) were randomized (1:1) to receive either standard ERAS care or an integrated perioperative intervention combining

Abnormal temporal dynamics of high-frequency neural oscillations are associated with poor sleep quality in abstinent patients with alcohol use disorders.

BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbance is a common and clinically significant symptom in individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD), often persisting during abstinence and increasing the risk of relapse. However, the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying sleep dysfunction in AUD remain poorly understood. Long-range temporal correlations (LRTC) in neural oscillations reflect the temporal organization and excitation-inhibition (E/I) balance of brain networks. While altered LRTC has been observed in various psychiatric and sleep disorders, its role in AUD-and its potential relationship to sleep dysfun

An analysis of self-reported sleep disturbance from nighttime wind turbine noise suggests minimal effects but highlights the need for standardization in research designa).

The World Health Organization Environmental Noise Guidelines provide source-based nighttime sound level (Lnight) recommendations. For non-aircraft sources, the recommended Lnight is where the absolute prevalence of high sleep disturbance (HSD) equals 3%. The Guideline Development Group did not provide an Lnight for wind turbines due to inadequate data. In the current study, calculated outdoor wind turbine Lnight levels ranged from <20.5 to 41.5 dB(A). Between May and September 2013, questionnaires were completed by 606 males and 632 females, 18-79 years of age, randomly selected from household
