Integrated holistic chronic wound care package for skin-NTDs and other conditions for the primary healthcare setting in Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Globally, chronic wounds resulting from diverse etiologies impose a significant physical, psychosocial, and economic burden and have remained a highly neglected public health challenge. Yet, people in rural Ethiopia have limited access to quality and comprehensive wound care. There is a marked paucity for an integrated, holistic care model in the primary healthcare settings. Hence, this study aimed to develop a context-tailored, integrated, holistic, chronic wound care package in Ethiopia. METHODS: A multi-method approach was applied, including a scoping review, formative assessme

Designing a provider-led multimorbidity care model for fragmented insurance-based health systems: A mixed-methods study in Colombia.

Multimorbidity the coexistence of two or more chronic conditions is a growing challenge for health systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) structured around single-disease paradigms. In Colombia, insurer-provider fragmentation within the General System of Social Security in Health (SGSSS) compounds this challenge, generating discontinuities in care that disproportionately affect people living with multiple chronic conditions. Despite a national epidemiological characterisation, a World Bank-supported management proposal, and a formal pilot implementation, limited published evidence

Integration of virtual reality and eye-tracking-based feedback system improves rehabilitation observation skills.

BACKGROUND: Rehabilitation education has traditionally relied on an apprenticeship model, where the acquisition of practical skills, such as the ability to observe subtle patient movements to detect abnormalities, is highly dependent on the tacit knowledge of experienced practitioners. This lack of objective evaluation and standardized education presents a significant challenge. To address this, we integrated virtual reality (VR) and eye-tracking technologies to objectively measure and educate behavioral observation skills. This study aimed to quantitatively verify the educational effectivenes

Identifying challenges in concurrent mental health and substance use disorder care: qualitative findings from an e-Delphi study in British Columbia, Canada.

BACKGROUND: Health care for people with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders (i.e., concurrent disorders) has been described as fragmented and uncoordinated. Despite evidence that integrated care is associated with improved health and social outcomes, siloed health services continue to dominate the health system. Absent from the discourse around meaningful system improvements are the perspectives of people with lived/living experience and those with heath professional experience. This study aimed to explore the health care experiences of people with concurrent disorders, as w

Development of the W-PREV Model: Integrating HIV/STBBI Prevention and Women's Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Using an Intersectional Women-Centered Approach.

IntroductionWomen, both cisgender and transgender, experience persistent inequities in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) due to sexism, transphobia, racism, and systemic discrimination. In Canada and globally, these intersecting inequities are exacerbated by limited, biomedical, and colonial models of care that overlook women's needs, leaving them underserved in HIV and sexually transmitted and blood-borne infection (STBBI) prevention. Our study describes the development of the Women-Centred Prevention (W-PREV) Model, designed to integrate HIV/STBBI prevention and SRH through an intersectio

Pulmonary rehabilitation integrated coached exercise training for patients with COPD: a study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the most common chronic lung disease creating an immense burden on social health care systems. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) has proven to be effective in patients with COPD. However, exercise training as the basis of PR becomes extremely tedious, occasionally causing a loss of perseverance in patients. Therefore, we considered an approach that makes this technique interesting and easier to persist. The aim of this project was to explore an exercise training approach based on PR-integrated coached exercise training to promote the new

Effect of self-determination theory-based integrated creative art (SDTICA) program on older adults with mild cognitive impairment in nursing homes: Study protocol for a cluster randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The cognitive benefits of early non-pharmacological approaches have been demonstrated in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). However, older adults living in nursing homes have more severe cognitive impairment problems and lower initiative and compliance to participate in complex interventions. Hence, it important to investigate more attractive and sustainable methods to prevent or delay cognitive decline. The present study adopts the self-determination theory (SDT) as a theoretical framework to innovatively develop an integrated art-based intervention for older adult

Chronic pediatric diseases and risk for reading difficulties: a narrative review with recommendations.

Literacy is a major social determinant of health, rooted in skills that develop during early childhood. Children arriving at kindergarten unprepared to learn to read are more likely to have low reading proficiency thereafter. General and health literacy are highly correlated, affecting understanding of health conditions, treatment adherence, and transition to self-care and adult healthcare services. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends literacy and school readiness promotion during well-visits and neurodevelopmental surveillance is emphasized across primary and subspecialty care

Optimizing Myanmar's community-delivered malaria volunteer model: a qualitative study of stakeholders' perspectives.

BACKGROUND: In parallel with the change of malaria policy from control to elimination and declines in the malaria burden in Greater Mekong Sub-region, the motivation and social role of malaria volunteers has declined. To address this public health problem, in Myanmar, the role and responsibilities of malaria volunteers have been transformed into integrated community malaria volunteers (ICMV), that includes the integration of activities for five additional diseases (dengue, lymphatic filariasis, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and leprosy) into their current activities. However, this transformation was

The Positive Impact of Integrative Medicine in the Treatment of Recalcitrant Chronic daily Headache: A Series of Case Reports.

People who suffer from recalcitrant chronic daily headache (CDH)-a primary, episodic headache occurring at least 15 days per month, and lasting four or more hours per day for at least three consecutive months(1)-have generally tried many pain relief medications with few positive results. These patients often continue to add more and more medications and travel from clinician to clinician seeking help, without relief. Patients with recalcitrant CDH are often caught in a vicious cycle of increasing pain which results in a substantial impact from their disease on productivity and quality of life.

Feasibility and willingness-to-pay for integrated community-based tuberculosis testing.

BACKGROUND: Community-based screening for TB, combined with HIV and syphilis testing, faces a number of barriers. One significant barrier is the value that target communities place on such screening. METHODS: Integrated testing for TB, HIV, and syphilis was performed in neighborhoods identified using geographic information systems-based disease mapping. TB testing included skin testing and interferon gamma release assays. Subjects completed a survey describing disease risk factors, healthcare access, healthcare utilization, and willingness to pay for integrated testing. RESULTS: Behavioral a

Using strengths-based nursing to introduce the Kerala model of palliative care to Australia-a theoretical integrative narrative review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Palliative care aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals with life-limiting illness through holistic, person-centred, and family-centred support. However, delivering equitable palliative care in rural/remote Australia remains a persistent challenge due to vast geography, limited clinicians, and diverse community needs. This paper proposes adapting the community-driven, cost-effective Kerala model of palliative care (KMPC)-to rural/remote Australian settings through strengths-based nursing (SBN). METHODS: The theoretical integrative narrative review methodo

Position paper on symbiotic intelligence in healthcare: Can AI help us better understand suicidal behavior and prevent suicide?

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people aged 10-24 worldwide, yet identifying individuals at risk remains a major challenge. In Norway, suicide rates reached their highest level in 25 years in 2024, underscoring persistent knowledge gaps in national prevention efforts and the need for innovative, interdisciplinary, and supplementary approaches. There are no simple solutions to mental ill health or suicide, and no single factor can adequately explain such complex phenomena; however, it remains crucial to examine how interacting risk factors may increase vulnerability and

Resource Use Patterns in US Telehealth Services: Machine Learning and Clustering Analysis Across 4 Specialties.

BACKGROUND: The expansion of telehealth services, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, has transformed health care delivery in the United States. Telehealth promises greater access and resource efficiency by reducing wait times and appointment lengths, especially in specialties like psychiatry, behavioral health, bariatrics, and sleep medicine. However, disparities exist in adoption based on demographics, geography, and socioeconomic status, raising concerns about equitable access and optimal resource use. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate how telehealth impacts health care resourc

'When I create, I am free and happy': a mixed-methods study of young people's experiences of arts engagement and implications for public mental health policy.

AIMS: Globally, young people face escalating rates of mental health concerns, while traditional services often remain inaccessible. An emerging body of research suggests that participating in the arts, from everyday engagement to creative arts therapies, may benefit youth mental health, yet gaps persist in equitable access and youth perspectives. This research aimed to better understand young people's definitions of mental health and their perspectives on the role of the arts in supporting their mental health. METHODS: This mixed-methods international study included an online survey, ups, qua

Systematic referral to palliative care in patients attending dedicated emergency units from French comprehensive anticancer centres: the prospective multicentre randomised comparative clinical trial PALLU.

INTRODUCTION: International medical oncology societies recommended early integration of palliative care to alleviate symptoms, improve quality of life and significantly reduce aggressiveness of care near the end of life, defined as the use of chemotherapy, high rate of hospitalisation/visits to emergency or intensive care unit in the last month of life or death in acute care unit. However, the most appropriate schedule for patient referral is still to be determined. Scores and criteria are debated, with uncontrolled symptoms (pain, dyspnoea, distress, etc) being one of the main indicators. The
