131 patients suffering from meningitis due to Haemophilus influenzae or parainfluenzae were re-examined after 1-15 years, using hospital records, questionnaires, and audiological examination, especially to compare chloramphenicol and ampicillin therapy. Mortality was 3.8%. Subdural effusions occurred in 14.5% of cases uni- or bilaterally. There was deafness in 2.3%, and moderate hearing loss in 8.4%. Convulsions appeared later in 6.9%. A report on 2820 x-rayfilms of the sinus maxillaris from adults, on 120 x-rayfilms from child-like and youthful patients as a control group and from 301 x-rayfilms from patients with cleft formations to show the aplasia of the sinus maxillaris and frontalis is being given. Operative results of stress urinary incontinence are discussed on the basis of a follow-up study made 3-5 years after the operation. The series consisted of 301 patients operated on during 1969-1971. The most significant anamnestic feature was the great number of multiparas: 67% of the patients had given birth to at least 4 children. The clinical efficacy and the rebound phenomenon were studied in a left-right double-blind trial comparing triamcinolone acetonide (TA) and hydrocortisone 17-butyrate (HC 17-B, Locoid). The polyacrylamide-gel disc electrophoresis has been applied to the fractionation of 27 samples of unconcentrated urine obtained from the patients with monoclonal gammopathy. It was shown that 44% of the whole Bence Jones protein bands examined were detected in the area between 0.70 and 0.90 expressed in terms of relative migration based on transferrin. The method provided a satisfactory separation of native urine proteins with good reproducibility and few technical difficulties. It may become an efficient tool in clinical chemistry.

The corneal pathology in rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren's syndrome is described with emphasis on rheumatic keratomalacia. This particular disorder whether affecting the central and paracentral or the peripheral parts of the cornea is characterized by thinning of the corneal stroma, loss of epithelium, ulceration and eventually by corneal perforation. 7 cases are reported. Reduced tear production and simultaneous corticosteroid treatment seem to be the essential pathogenetic factors of this corneal disease. Therapeutic consequences and differential diagnosis are discussed.

Distribution of Corynebacterium renale among apparently healthy bulls reared in Hokkaido was investigated. The organism was detected from 46 (39.3%) of 117 specimens of preputial cavity washing and from 60 (51.7%) of 116 specimens of semen. The isolates studied in this survey belonged to type III, except a few which belonged to type II. No type I strain was isolated from any bull. An aggressive form of odontogenic cyst known as the keratocyst has been reviewed with a report on the findings of 70 new instances. Recurrence after 2 years of followup was found to be 20%.
