OBJECTIVE: To study risk factors linked to spinal fusion surgical wound infection (SWI) incidence and compare the incidence with rates in Madrid Region, Spain and United States as a whole.

INTRODUCTION: Discharging middle ear continues to be one of the commonest problems seen in the developing world. There is an ever growing need to carry out studies periodically to determine the common bacterial agents responsible for discharging otitis media and their antibiotic sensitivity especially in set-ups characterized with minimal laboratory services. The study sought to determine the common bacterial agents causing discharging middle ear among children presenting at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu and their sensitivity to the commonly available antibiotics.

BACKGROUND: Respiratory viral infections (RVIs) are frequent complications of hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). Surgical masks are a simple and inexpensive intervention that may reduce nosocomial spread.
METHODS: In this prospective single-center study, we instituted a universal surgical mask policy requiring all individuals with direct contact with HSCT patients to wear a surgical mask, regardless of symptoms or season. The primary endpoint was the incidence of RVIs in the mask period (2010-2014) compared with the premask period (2003-2009).

BACKGROUND: Lung transplant (LTX) recipients are at high risk of invasive Aspergillus infections (IAI). However, no randomized-controlled trials (RCT) or international guidelines on antifungal prophylaxis (AFP) in the LTX population exist.

Penetrating keratoplasty is one of the most common tissue grafts and organ transplantations. The aim of our study was to report our experience in corneal transplantation. A prospective study of 195 patients who underwent corneal transplantation over the period from August 2009 to August 2015. Mean follow-up was 21 months.
