Nano aptasensor for protective antigen toxin of anthrax.

We demonstrate a highly sensitive nano aptasensor for anthrax toxin through the detection of its polypeptide entity, protective antigen (PA toxin) using a PA toxin ssDNA aptamer functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) device. The aptamer was developed in-house by capillary electrophoresis systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (CE-SELEX) and had a dissociation constant (K(d)) of 112 nM. The aptasensor displayed a wide dynamic range spanning up to 800 nM with a detection limit of 1 nM. The sensitivity was 0.11 per nM, and it was reusable six times. The aptasenso

Enantioseparation of chiral tropa alkaloids by means of cyclodextrin-modified microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography.

CD-modified microemulsion EKC as a CE technique has been applied to the chiral separation of atropine, scopolamine, ipratropium and homatropine. Enantioseparations of these tropa alkaloids were optimized by using a standard oil-in-water (O/W) microemulsion and varying the nature and concentration of CD additives as well as of the organic modifier (methanol, 2-propanol or ACN) whilst keeping the applied voltage of 15 kV and capillary temperature of 30 degrees C constant. The standard (O/W) microemulsion BGE solution consisted of 0.8% w/w octane, 6.6% w/w 1-butanol, 2.0% w/w SDS and 90.6% w/w 10

The role of fenestrated vessels for the secretory process in the nasal mucosa: a histological and transmission electron microscopic study in the rabbit.

Both nasal glands and nasal vessels are supposed to be responsible for the humidification of inhaled air. After previous studies on the vasculature of the nasal septal mucosa in the rabbit, we examined vessels of the anterior concha in order to find a morphological equivalent to explain the role of endonasal vasculature in the secretory process of this tissue. The main findings of our study include the detection of fenestrated endothelial walls of both capillaries and venous sinuses located underneath and directly adjacent to the basal cell layers of the epithelium. The same phenomenon-fenestr…

[Vascularization of the corpus callosum in humans].

The blood supply of the corpus callosum is studied in 20 brains by injecting the vascular system with gelatinous Indian ink. The arterial vascularization derives mainly from the anterior cerebral arteries, accessed from the median artery of the corpus callosum or from the terminal and choroidal branches of the posterior cerebral arteries. The various arteries give off perforating branches which are direct or indirect, short, of middle length or long. All these arteries concentrate on the peripheral wall of the corpus callosum. Inside of it these various arteries give off numerous terminal and

[Conjunctival capillaroscopy].

Microcirculation is clearly visible and can be observed on the conjunctival mucosa by means of any microscope and notably with the slit lamp microscope of ophtalmologists. A glance at the conjunctival vessels may provide useful information on the quality of microcirculation generally and on the ischaemic or oedematous repercussions of lesions affecting the kidney, the brain and other organs. The vascular alterations detectable on the conjunctiva are described. The retina also may present with abnormalities of microcirculation. Their easy detection on the conjunctiva should lead to a more compl

[Fabry's disease without cutaneous angiokeratoma : diagnosis by electron microscope study of skin biopsy (author's transl)].

A case of Fabry's disease without typical skin lesion is reported. Electron microscope study of normally appearing skin (at clinical and even histological levels) has shown typical inclusions within cytoplasm of various dermic cells (endothelial cells and pericytes, myocytes, fibroblasts) and adipocytes. These inclusions are made up of stacks of membranes with parallel array and periodicity about 5 nanometers. Such a case emphasizes usefulness of electron microscopy of skin, even normally appearing, for the diagnosis of Fabry disease, as it has been previously shown for other dyslipidoses.
