Public Reporting Systems in Health Care and the Underconceptualized Technical Substrate, a Core Information Systems Dimension: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Public reporting systems (PRSs) in health care are defined as digital platforms that make comparative health care performance data available to the public (eg, Hospital Compare in the United States, NHS Choices in the United Kingdom, national quality registries in Europe, and MyHospital in Australia). These systems aim to improve transparency, accountability, and patient choice. While these systems have been widely studied from policy and clinical perspectives, the information system (IS) foundations that enable their operation, including architecture, interoperability, data govern

Effectiveness of Structured Exercise Programs in Patients With Conduction System Pacing and Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy: A Systematic Review.

Following the implantation of cardiac physiological pacemakers and similar electronic cardiac devices, individuals frequently face a decline in physical activity levels, marked exercise intolerance, compromised functional capacities, and a diminished overall quality of life. These constraints are often aggravated by an underlying fear of physical exertion, pre-existing myocardial dysfunction, bodily deconditioning, and various psychosocial barriers. Consequently, structured exercise rehabilitation has gained substantial attention as a vital, non-pharmacological approach to enhancing both the p

Co-Develop-IT! Unifying Methodological Guideline for the Co-Design, Development, and Evaluation of Individually Tailored Technology-Enhanced Training and Rehabilitation Concepts: Consensus Development Study and Tutorial.

BACKGROUND: Applying digital health technologies (DHTs) for health promotion and disease prevention is recommended by official bodies such as the World Health Organization. User-centered co-design with systematic patient and public involvement is considered best practice for developing such complex interventions. Although well-established methodological guides and frameworks are available, an important gap is that they are either holistic but generic, offering minimal operational guidance, or context-specific and operational, but focusing only on subphases of establishing DHT-enhanced interven

Benefit of the N-of-1 Approach Versus Aggregate Analysis in Tracking Individual Trajectories During Pregnancy: Comparison of Longitudinal Wearable Observational Studies.

BACKGROUND: Personal digital health technologies (DHTs) enable real-time monitoring of physiological metrics and behavioral data, including heart rate variability (HRV), supporting analysis of pregnancy-related conditions and personalized care throughout the perinatal period. While recent studies demonstrate the utility of personal DHTs in tracking pregnancy-related symptoms, they often rely on aggregate statistical methods that overlook individual variability. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to compare aggregate and individual-level analyses of DHT data for pregnancy-related conditions, using the

Tailored Text Messaging Intervention to Improve Self-Care in Patients With Heart Failure (Text4HF): Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Heart failure (HF) is a major public health problem associated with frequent hospitalizations, high mortality, and substantial health care costs. Self-care is fundamental to improving health outcomes; yet, self-care is commonly poor among patients with HF. SMS text messaging interventions may provide a simple, scalable, and accessible strategy to support HF self-care, particularly among older adults who may face barriers to using more complex digital health technologies. However, the efficacy of text messaging as a standalone intervention for patients with HF remains underexplored.

The hidden crisis: a multinational analysis of neurosurgical residency training in Latin America.

Neurosurgery residency in Latin America is a rigorous and demanding process, often characterized by prolonged working hours, variable access to academic resources and inconsistent institutional support. While global discussions on resident well-being, workload regulation and burnout prevention are advancing, there remains limited multicenter, region-specific data on these issues in Latin America. This study aimed to evaluate the training conditions, mental health, mentorship availability and access to educational resources among neurosurgery residents across the region. Multinational cross-sec

HLA Experts' Perspectives on Precision Medicine and Molecular Matching in Kidney Transplantation: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Kidney transplantation is the best treatment for chronic kidney failure, but antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) is a major cause of kidney transplant loss. Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) molecular-compatibility-based organ allocation aims to reduce the risk of donor-specific antibody formation and thereby lower the risk of AMR. However, integrating molecular compatibility in organ allocation could introduce barriers to access, consequently raising ethical concerns. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to gather perspectives of HLA professionals on molecular matching in kidney

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia - overlap, differences, and emerging insights.

BACKGROUND: Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and fibromyalgia (FM) are debilitating chronic illnesses with considerable symptom overlap. Their symptoms include profound fatigue, widespread pain, post-exertional deterioration, sleep disturbance, dysautonomia, and cognitive impairment. These illnesses frequently co-occur; ME/CFS often develops first, particularly after infection. This overlap creates a diagnostic grey area and contributes to severe reductions in quality of life. Despite these shared features, key distinctions remain essential. ME/CFS is characterised b

Using Wearable Devices to Monitor Activity and Sleep in Inpatients With Parkinson Disease With and Without Delirium: Feasibility and Acceptability Study.

BACKGROUND: Delirium is a serious condition characterized by an acute change in attention, arousal, and sleep disturbance. It is common in inpatients with Parkinson disease (PD) but is frequently missed or misidentified due to overlapping symptoms, such as cognitive impairment, hallucinations, and sleep disturbances. While clinical tools often measure only a snapshot of delirium, wearable devices could facilitate the identification and ongoing monitoring of delirium, including continuous assessment of activity and sleep patterns, which are frequently disrupted. Establishing feasibility is esse

Precision Diagnostics in Prostate Cancer: Integrating Biomarkers, Imaging, Genomics, and Artificial Intelligence in Contemporary United States Practice.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non-cutaneous malignancy among men in the United States and remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Its marked biological, molecular, and histopathological heterogeneity creates a central diagnostic challenge: identifying clinically significant disease while limiting unnecessary biopsy and overdiagnosis of tumors unlikely to affect survival or quality of life. Although prostate-specific antigen (PSA) remains the foundation of early detection, its limited cancer specificity has driven the development of increasingly risk-adapted diagno

Mandibular Angle Osteotomy via Intraoral Approach: A 15-Year Experience from a Single Plastic Surgery Center in China.

BACKGROUND: Mandibular angle osteotomy (MAO) using an intraoral approach is a common procedure for correcting square facial contours in the Asian population. While previous retrospective studies have primarily focused on complications rates, limited research has examined time-related trends and the epidemiological characteristics of the surgical population. A comprehensive study with a large sample size and long-term follow-up is crucial to enhance outcomes, minimize complications, provide evidence-based insights, and consolidate clinical experience. METHODS: This retrospective study reviewed

Application of the LDA model to identify topics in telemedicine conversations on the X social network.

The evolution experienced by global society, in the post-COVID 19 era, is marked by the quite obligatory use of digital media in many sectors, as is the case for the health sector. Quite frequently, both patients and health professionals use social media to express their telemedicine concerns or interests. The present research focuses on these social media comments as they represent a very interesting data source for researchers. In the present analysis, we focus on unstructured tweet texts written by Internet users and apply both machine learning and the Latent Dirichlet Allocation algorithm
