Nonvenereal syphilis (endemic syphilis) has existed in Europe since the 16th century. Main characteristics of the disease are its presence for a longer time in a specific territory and its transmission regardless of age and sex, mainly extragenitally in unsanitary living conditions. Nonvenereal syphilis was described under different names in almost all regions of Europe. Cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis diagnosed at the laboratory of Department of Hygiene of the University of Catania (Italy), from 1998-2007 were evaluated. This study aimed at characterizing the victims of medullar lesion (LM) and their daily needs. The data were collected in Maringi, Parani, Brasil, from 32 subjects by using semi-structured interview. Radiotherapy of head and neck cancer is efficient but may have severe late effects. Although unfrequent, mandibular radionecrosis is the most dreadful. A school survey of 4461 primary-school children was carried out. The epidemiological, clinical and mycological features of tinea capitis were recorded. Of 204 clinically diagnosed cases, mycological examination of hair and scalp scrapings gave positive results in 120, a prevalence of 2.7%.
