INTRODUCTION: Charcot's arthropathy is a disabling non-infectious, progressive condition characterized by bony and articular destruction in patients with sensory neuropathy. In advanced cases with deformities and ankle instability, it requires a more invasive treatment as an ankle fusion with a retrograde locked intramedullary nail. It is unknown if, in these patients, the functional results of AOFAS (American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society) correlate with the quality of life ones from the EuroQol-5D test and the possible postoperative complications.

BACKGROUND: Nail pigmentation can be a clinical manifestation of malignant melanoma and a variety of benign diseases. Nail matrix biopsy for pathologic examination, the gold standard for diagnosis of subungual melanoma, is a painful procedure and may result in nail damage. Therefore, there is a great need for non-invasive methods and long-term follow-up for nail pigmentation. BACKGROUND: Nail apparatus melanoma (NAM) is a subtype of cutaneous melanoma occurring at nail units and belongs to the acral lentiginous melanoma subgroup. Due to its unique anatomical structure to protect the acral site, mechanical trauma may have a clinicoprognostic impact on NAM. Therefore, we investigated the clinicoprognostic and histopathological characteristics of NAM according to the presence of trauma history prior to melanoma development.

We report the first two cases of allergic contact dermatitis from resacetophenone in a nail antifungal preparation. Patch tests gave positive reactions to resacetophenone (0.1% and 1% pet.). No cross-reactions with resorcinol or phenylethyl resorcinol were found. Patch testing with individual ingredients is paramount to diagnose new allergens.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of the proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) and external fixation in the management of unstable intertrochanteric fractures in elderly patients.
METHODS: Eighty-seven of 114 patients with unstable intertrochanteric fractures were included in this study between January 2015 and June 2019, 46 were fixed with PFNA implant and 41 with external fixator.
