In the last eight years, 60 patients with carcinoma of the prostate in an advanced stage underwent transrectal ultrasound examinations of the prostate both before and after treatment with LHRH analogues, alone or associated with antiandrogens. Mean follow-up was 30 months (9-96 months) and mean survival 33 months (9-81). A 'TGS' classification for supratentorial brain glioma is proposed, based on three parameters: tumour extension (T), histopathological grade (G) and extent of surgical resection (S). Between February 1988 and December 1989, 65 patients with supraglottic cancer completed a course of concomitant boost radiotherapy. Cases with N3 disease, a Karnovsky performance score less than 70, age above 70 years, or a second primary cancer were not eligible for the study. The influence of breast size on the prognosis of 196 patients with early breast cancer diagnosed in the period 1984-1985 was studied. Breast size was based on the volume from mammography. This method was validated against the volume of the mastectomy specimen determined by water displacement in 18 patients and found to be accurate (r = 0.93, P < 0.01). Subvenous external iliac lymph node dissection is an essential element for the staging of prostatic cancer. 7 to 30% of patients with intracapsular prostatic cancer have lymph node metastases despite normal imaging examinations. A 24 year old female with a stage III-B Hodgkin disease involving the mediastinum was subjected to chemotherapy and supradiaphragmatic radiotherapy. A year later she developed heart failure. LV dilatation and decreased systolic function with anteroseptal and lateral hypokinesia and a small pericardial effusion were shown by X Ray and echocardiography. An initial clinical diagnosis of radiation heart disease was changed to myocardial involvement by Hodgkin disease after performing and endomyocardial biopsy.

This paper describes a new technique and preliminary clinical results of remote after-loading transurethral irradiation for cancer of the prostate. As of January 1986, twelve patients with adenocarcinoma of the prostate have been treated by our radiotherapy technique. One hundred thirteen patients with carcinoma of the rectum were evaluated for lymph node metastases by endorectal ultrasound. With the use of 7.5 MHz and based on different echo patterns, two main groups of lymph nodes can be differentiated: hypoechoic and hyperechoic lymph nodes. The results of treatment in 175 consecutive patients with nonHodgkin lymphoma (NHL) clinical stage I treated between 1969 and 1984 were analysed according to different pretreatment prognostic variables. Treatment consisted of radiotherapy in 166 of the 175 patients. Seventy seven patients with prostatic carcinoma were treated in our clinic between 1977 and 1986. Most of them were treated by a hormonal agent as the first therapy. None of the 9 stage A1 cases showed any reactivation, but 4 of the 5 stage A2 cases relapsed to metastatic disease.
