Bronchial carcinomas are frequently associated with ectopic secretion of hormones which may be responsible for paraneoplastic syndromes. Urothelial carcinoma (UC) is the most common malignant neoplasm of the urinary tract. Metastases of UC are most common in the regional lymph nodes, lungs, liver, bone, and adrenal glands. Fine-needle aspiration cytology diagnosis of such metastases can be difficult, particularly in the setting of incomplete clinical history or when multiple primary neoplasms may be present. This review focuses on the cytologic features helpful in differentiating UC from its potential mimics, as well as ancillary studies that may be helpful in the distinction.

In the presence of a mediastinal mass, fine needle aspiration biopsy is an alternative to other time-consuming and expensive diagnostic procedures. We have performed a total of 25 fine needle aspiration biopsies of mediastinal lesions in 18 patients. Although our material is too limited to reach definite conclusions as to risks, we have found the technique enables a high percentage of positive diagnoses and is well tolerated by the patient.

Chemotherapy based upon cellular synchronisation via intra-arterial infusion was used in the treatment of 21 carcinomas of the maxillo-facial region. These tumours had never been treated either by surgery, nor by irradiation. This pre-operative treatment was not aimed at altering ghe indication for the type of operation decided upon at the outset. It was found that a combination of Vincristine, Bleomycine, Methotrexate and Dibromdulcide was more satisfactory than other types of chemotherapy. The most important complication of the method was a thrombosis of the common carotid.
