Maternal screening for early postnatal vulnerability.

Research has highlighted the wide impact of maternal mental health problems during and beyond the postpartum period and the public health role of community health professionals in early detection of women who may be at risk. This paper aims to describe, explore and test an a priori hypothesised conceptual model of postnatal experience, identifying the relationships between postnatal mental vulnerability and postnatal adjustment to maternal roles and attitudes, marital/partner-relationship and sense of coherence. Three validated self-report questionnaires (WAST, MAMA, SOC) measuring the variabl

Comfort First: Development and pilot testing of a web-based video training to disseminate Comfort Matters dementia care.

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (ADRD) are a leading cause of disability and death. In late-stage ADRD most people prioritize comfort, but care to achieve comfort is rare. Comfort Matters combines palliative and geriatric care practices for nursing home dementia care, but in-person training reaches few sites. To facilitate dissemination, we developed Comfort First, a web-based training toolkit with video demonstration of Comfort Matters practices. METHODS: We developed and pilot-tested Comfort First (NIA Intervention Stage 1). Stakeholder advisors representing nursing home r

Adult student nurses' experiences of encountering perceived child abuse or neglect during their community placement: Implications for nurse education.

INTRODUCTION: While child nursing students may expect to encounter child abuse and neglect and assume a safeguarding role when they qualify, those undertaking adult nursing courses may not expect to come into contact with children and may be even less likely to expect to encounter child abuse or neglect. This paper presents the findings of an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) study. Students learn through experience and reflection and Mezirow's Transformational Learning Theory (TLT) was used to explain the various ways in which nine adult nursing students attempted to make sense o

"My Wife's Healthcare Is my Healthcare": A Qualitative Study Exploring Family-Centered Strategies to Enhance Cervical Cancer Prevention in Northern Ghana.

IntroductionWhile largely preventable, cervical cancer remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where gaps in screening uptake persist despite expanding prevention efforts. In many patriarchal settings, men play influential roles in household decision-making and access to healthcare, positioning them as critical but under-engaged stakeholders. There remains limited understanding of how educational strategies to improve health literacy can be designed to effectively engage men in supporting women's screening participation.MethodsWe conducted

Effects of Spiritual and Religious Practices on Burnout and Academic Stress Among Undergraduate Medical Students: Protocol for a Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Burnout is increasingly recognized as a critical concern in medical education due to its associations with reduced professional performance, decreased empathy, and increased risk of medical errors. With growing evidence that medical students commonly experience burnout and its associated health consequences (eg, depression and suicide), it is essential to explore factors that may protect against its harmful effects on student well-being. Although spirituality is often considered a potential factor supporting mental health and resilience, its role in buffering burnout among medical

Digital lifelines, data landmines: digital mental health tools for regional and urban families in an age of surveillance.

BACKGROUND: Depression, anxiety and behavioural disorders are among the leading causes of illness and disability for young people (aged 16-24 years), with suicide the third leading cause of death for individuals aged 15-29 years. For many young people, parents and caregivers play a central role in initiating help seeking, a dynamic shaped by developmental factors, cultural norms, and systemic barriers to accessing professional services, with most adolescents expressing a preference to rely on parental support rather than engage with mental health professionals. Additional barriers for accessin

An Educational Intervention to Train Professional Nurses in Promoting Patient Engagement: A Pilot Feasibility Study.

Introduction: Growing evidence recognizes that patients who are motivated to take an active role in their care can experience a range of health benefits and reduced healthcare costs. Nurses play a critical role in the effort to make patients fully engaged in their disease management. Trainings devoted to increase nurses' skills and knowledge to assess and promote patient engagement are today a medical education priority. To address this goal, we developed a program of nurse education training in patient engagement strategies (NET-PES). This paper presents pilot feasibility study and preliminar

Study of the Expression of Integrins in Smooth Myocytes of the Gastrointestinal Organs After Space Flight.

Spaceflight has crucial effects on living organisms, primarily due to weightlessness, which causes essential morphofunctional changes in the tissues of almost all body systems. Smooth muscle tissue is one of the main system-forming components of the gastrointestinal tract, which makes its study particularly relevant to space gastroenterology. Integrins are cell adhesion receptors expressed in practically all cell types, including smooth muscle cells. By mediating interactions with the extracellular matrix and intercellular signaling, smooth muscle cell integrins actively participate in adaptat
