To compensate for the loss of tissue after transferring the temporalis muscle, it is advisable to fill the temporalis fossa for aesthetic reasons. In so doing, we have used IONOS bone cement to augment the fossa after muscle transfers. Twelve procedures have been performed within the past 3 years. The average follow-up time has been 23 months. We studied the effects of recombinant human growth hormone (GH) treatment in 6 prepubertal children with achondroplasia. The patients' age ranged from 2 11/12 to 8 5/12 years and the GH dose was of 0.1 IU/kg/day subcutaneously. Auxological assessments and bone age determinations were performed 6 months before, at the beginning, and after 6 and 12 months of therapy. The growth velocity increase during the whole year of treatment ranged from 1.1 to 2.6 cm/year in 3 patients while in the others no variation was detected. Characteristic temporal bone changes have recently been defined by high resolution CT in nine patients with achondroplasia (Cobb et al., Am J Neuroradiol 9:1195, 1988). Fifty patients with meningiomas were treated during the initial 30 months experience using the 201 source cobalt-60 gamma knife at the University of Pittsburgh. This is a review of 80 cases of intracranial meningiomas, which were operated on in the neurosurgical Service of Lausanne. 51 tumors were associated with an area of low attenuation of variable extension on the CT-scan. Aggressive medical management and surgical debridement is curative in most cases of malignant external otitis.
