The best currently available evidence based treatment reduces vertebral fracture risk but does not totally prevent osteoporotic and malignant follow-up fractures. Kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty are options of a causal treatment to reduce pain by internal stabilization of fractured vertebrae. The indication for these minimal invasive procedures requires an interdisciplinary discussion of the individual case to guarantee technical feasibility, to increase the likelihood that these procedures will indeed reduce pain and to embed these procedures into the long term therapeutic concept of every sin

This study was designed to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the use of anhydrous alcohol as an adjuvant treatment for giant cell tumours (GCTs) of long bone. Between October 1989 and January 2004, 42 GCT patients were treated and followed up for an average of 4.1 years (range 1-13 years). Mean patient age was 34 years (range 17-67 years). Peri- and sub-prosthetic fractures, or pathological fractures below an existing well-fixed femoral component, with or without an ipsilateral knee replacement, present a difficult surgical challenge. We describe a simple solution, in which a custom-made prosthesis with a cylindrical design is cemented proximally to the stem of an existing, well-fixed femoral component. We present the management of recurrent posterior dislocations in cemented Charnley total hip arthroplasties treated with acetabular augmentation. Certain patients are elderly with comorbid conditions and diminished reserves. We have used a minimal surgical approach to implant 21 posterior lip augmentation devices in elderly patients. The poor results of surgical treatment of chronic instability after total hip arthroplasty (THA) led to the development of a constrained acetabular component. In this study, 87 constrained THAs implanted for recurrent instability were reviewed retrospectively. This report involves the retrospective evaluation of ITI implants placed by a group of 12 clinicians located throughout the United States. Of the 174 single implants placed in 129 patients, 151 implants (86.8%) were placed in posterior regions, and 23 were placed in anterior regions; 54.6% of the implants had a length of 10 mm or less. In order to evaluate the long-term effect of total hip replacement (THR) in patients with steroid-induced femoral head necrosis, 40 cases of 50 hips received THR patients were followed up for an average of 8.5 years after operation. The results of 276 cemented revision total hip arthroplasties performed for aseptic failure between 1977 and 1986 have been reviewed. The mean time between revision and review was 75 months (range 30 to 144). Of 220 cases available for review, 159 were assessed clinically and radiographically, and 32 by postal questionnaire.
