INTRODUCTION: Congenital anomalies of the appendix are extremely rare. They are usually found incidentally during operations other than appendectomies. Congenital appendix diverticula are even less frequent.
DISCUSSION: Congenital caeco-appendiceal fistulae have not been reported until today. Herein, we present real diverticula of the appendix with multiple caeco-appendiceal fistulae which, to our knowledge, is the first in the literature.

OBJECTIVE: To report a case of multiple acquired jejunal pseudodiverticula managed successfully by resection and jejunojejunostomy.
STUDY DESIGN: Clinical report.
ANIMALS: Arabian filly.
METHODS: The filly was referred for signs of acute colic of several hours duration and had a 2-week history of inappetence and weight loss. Three meters of thickened, edematous, and dilated jejunum removed during exploratory celiotomy had an intussusception and numerous diverticula; jejunojejunostomy performed. The pathoanatomic diagnosis was proliferative enteropathy with pseudodiverticula formation and je

OBJECTIVE: We evaluated the computed tomography (CT) features of juxtapapillary duodenal diverticula (JPDD) with complications in patients who had acute abdomen.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nineteen JPDD were evaluated in 14 patients (mean age: 50 years), who had acute abdomen on contrast-enhanced helical CT with a diagnosis of complicated JPDD by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The size, number, and contents of the JPDD, pacreticobiliary ductal dilation, biliary stones, and other associated findings were evaluated on CT scans.
RESULTS: Eighteen of the 19 JPDD (94.4%) conta

Prenatally, the umbilicus is of paramount importance, providing the gateway between the mother and the fetus. As the fetus becomes increasingly autonomous at the end of the second month of fetal life, the connections (vitelline, urachal) diminish in significance and involute. Disturbances in this process can result in a wide variety of abnormalities, ranging from relatively minor defects identified at birth (umbilical granulation tissue) to life-threatening complications quiescent until late adulthood (urachal carcinoma). This section will review the 'state of the art' in evaluation and manage

A 37-year-old woman presented with acute right lower abdominal pain. Intraoperatively, the appendix was enlarged and distended. The lumen of the appendix was tightly filled with pearl-like globules, diagnostic of myxoglobulosis, a rare variant of mucocele of the appendix. A carcinoid of 2.0 cm diameter was found in the proximal region of the appendix. The appendiceal mucosa showed hyperplastic-adenomatous changes. A pseudodiverticulum interpreted as evidence of increased intraluminal pressure was detected. The latter may be an adjunct to the proximal partial obstruction of the appendiceal lume…

OBJECTIVE: To review the urethral diverticula encountered in a tertiary-referral urogynaecology unit.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The case-notes … ticula were palpable on vaginal examination. Video cysto-urethrography was used in 15 women and the diverticulum was seen in 14. In addition, seven women had additional lower urinary tract pathology.
CONCLUSIONS: Urethral diverticula have no classical presentation; they often present with many symptoms and it is important that the diagnosis is not overlooked. …

The existence of chronic mucosal inflammation, confined to sigmoid colons that bear diverticula, is termed 'segmental colitis'. This condition often mimicks inflammatory bowel disease at histological examination. The observed rectal sparing suggests a possible form of Crohn's disease, but no other similarities between segmental colitis and Crohn's colitis are detectable. Medical treatment for segmental colitis, empirically carried out with drugs such as sulfasalazine and mesalazine, is mostly successful and, when surgery is required, post-operative recurrences are infrequent. Although the exis

Acquired diverticulae of the jejunum and ileum are uncommon and usually asymptomatic in most patients. Rarely they may cause intestinal obstruction, acute peritonitis due to perforation, or gastrointestinal hemorrhage. In most cases only a few diverticulae are present, and owing to their location diagnosis is often delayed. We herein report an unusual case of extensive panjejunoileal diverticulosis that induced recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding. Although rare, this disorder should be considered in the evaluation of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding.

Fifteen endoscopic stapling diverticulotomy procedures were performed on 14 patients. Our preliminary results show the technique to be fast. effective and safe. Most patients resumed oral intake within 6 h post-operatively and were discharged from hospital within 24 h. The technique has many advantages over both the external diverticulectomy and the traditional Dohlman's procedure. The short operating time and short hospital stay are an advantage. Our follow-up period was between 1 and 12 months. Long-term results require evaluation.

We report on 4 children where Meckel's diverticula (MD) were excised laparoscopically. In two of the children the finding of an MD was incidental and in two it was suspected preoperatively. In three of the patients the MD was ligated by means of an "endoloop" and could be removed in a similar manner to an appendix. In one patient the MD was resected by means of a stapler. No complications occurred. Subsequent histology confirmed the complete excision of the MD. Allowing for the size and shape of an MD, we prefer to excise it by means of an endoloop. An endoloop has the advantage that it can be
