Leveraging mHealth interventions to reduce sex- and drug-related risk behaviors among chemsex-involved men who have sex with men: evidence from a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Chemsex, a form of sexualized drug use, is a growing public health concern among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Malaysia. It is associated with an increased likelihood of HIV transmission and other adverse health outcomes, such as overdose. Although harm-reduction services are proven to be efficacious in mitigating these outcomes, they often remain inaccessible because of stigma, criminalization, and limited availability of the service. This study examines the barriers MSM face in such services and explores how a mobile smartphone app with tailored features could help overcome

Clinical impact and cost-effectiveness of rapid versus non-rapid antiretroviral therapy initiation in HIV-positive men who have sex with men in China using modelling and 96-week multicenter cohort data.

International treatment guidelines recommend rapid initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for individuals newly diagnosed with HIV-1 infection; however, robust long-term real-world evidence remains limited in China. We aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness of efavirenz (400 mg) plus lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (EFV + 3TC + TDF) versus the coformulated bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (BIC/FTC/TAF) in rapid (≤ 14 days from diagnosis) versus non-rapid (> 14 days) initiation among HIV-diagnosed men who have sex with men (MSM). HIV testing factors among Men Who Have Sex with Men in China: an analysis based on Lasso regression and Bayesian networks.

BACKGROUND: Men who have sex with men (MSM) face a high risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, and HIV testing is an effective strategy to reduce transmission. This study aimed to investigate factors associated with HIV testing among MSM and analyze the potential relationship between HIV testing and these factors. METHODS: Non-probability sampling was used to obtain samples, and an electronic questionnaire was used for cross-sectional survey. Lasso regression was used to screen the variables. Bayesian networks (BNs) were used to explore the interrelationships among factors influ

Long-Acting PrEP for People With High Vulnerability to HIV Acquisition in Brazil: A Cost-Effectiveness Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: In Brazil, men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) remain heavily affected by HIV. Long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis (LA PrEP) with injectable cabotegravir (CAB-LA) or lenacapavir (LEN-LA) is more effective at preventing HIV acquisition than oral PrEP. Our objective was to assess the potential clinical and economic impact of offering CAB-LA or LEN-LA to MSM and TGW with high vulnerability to HIV acquisition in Brazil and determine the maximum cost at which they would be cost-effective. METHODS: We used the CEPAC microsimulation model of HIV prevention and

Healthcare inequity in mpox testing intention: A socioeconomic status-stratified path analysis of medical discrimination and distrust among men who have sex with men in China.

BACKGROUND: Global mpox outbreaks have exposed healthcare inequities in testing accessibility. Socioeconomic disparities and medical discrimination and distrust influence testing service utilization among vulnerable populations. We examined how medical discrimination and distrust affect testing intention across socioeconomic strata among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. METHODS: We conducted a nationwide cross-sectional study across six regions of China (November 2023 to March 2024). MSM aged ≥ 18 years who reported male sexual partners within previous six months were recruited throu

Assessing the HIV prevention needs of transgender men and non-binary people who have sex with men: an analysis of repeated, cross-sectional behavioural surveillance, 2019-2023.

BACKGROUND: The HIV-related needs of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people who have sex with men in Australia are under-researched, impeding the effective use and targeting of HIV and sexual health services. METHODS: We used behavioural surveillance data to compare transgender men, non-binary people, and cisgender men on a range of factors, including demographics, sexual health, and the use of HIV testing and prevention. All eligible participant responses from the Gay Community Periodic Surveys (repeated, community-based, cross-sectional surveys) in 2019-2023 were included. Multivariabl

Exploration of the population size of men who have sex with men in Hainan colleges: A cross-sectional study based on geographical social network App.

Men who have sex with men (MSM) have historically been a high-risk group for sexually transmitted diseases. In Hainan, the incidence of HIV and syphilis among MSM has increased rapidly. Additionally, there is a growing number of young students being diagnosed with HIV, with MSM identified as the primary demographic affected. However, the size and distribution of the MSM population within colleges and universities in Hainan Province remains unknown. In this study, the Blued App was employed to collect data on users within Hainan colleges and universities from May 9 to May 18, 2023. Using the us

Healthcare Providers' Perspective on HIV Testing and Hypothetical mHealth-connected Linkage to Care Among Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) in South Carolina.

BackgroundHIV continues to be an important public health concern in South Carolina (SC). However, an examination of providers' willingness to use mHealth technologies to address ongoing barriers to HIV care and prevention strategies, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM) is currently lacking in SC. We therefore explored HIV care providers' perceptions of HIV testing and treatment uptake among MSM, and providers' willingness to use mHealth technology to address barriers to HIV testing and treatment in SC.MethodsBetween August and December 2021, we conducted semistructured virtual i

Factors Associated with Low/Moderate Perceived Risk for HIV Acquisition Among Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men Eligible to Use Pre-exposure Prophylaxis from Brazil, Mexico, and Peru.

Perceived risk for HIV acquisition among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) may not align with their actual sexual HIV exposure. Factors associated with low/moderate perceived risk among GBMSM eligible for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) (based on their high estimated HIV exposure) have been poorly described in Latin America. This is a secondary analysis of a 2018 web-based cross-sectional survey in Brazil, Mexico, and Peru. Participants were ≥ 18 years old, cisgender men, not living with HIV, had sex with other men in the previous six months, and had an HIV Incidence R

Fifth subtype of Kaposi sarcoma in HIV-negative MSM: a retrospective single-arm cohort study from a tertiary care center in NYC from 2000 to 2022.

BACKGROUND: Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a vascular tumor caused by human herpesvirus 8, also known as Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus. There are 4 distinct subtypes: classic, endemic, iatrogenic, and epidemic (HIV-associated). A fifth subtype is increasingly recognized: non-epidemic KS in men who have sex with men (MSM) who are HIV-negative. Our primary objective was to characterize non-epidemic KS to identify associated risk factors, presentation, treatment course, and prognosis of these patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort included all patients evaluated at Memorial Sloan Ketteri

Latino Sexual Minority Men's Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Modality Preferences: A Latent Class Analysis.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective HIV prevention tool available in several modalities (e.g., daily oral, injectable, implants, rectal douching). The Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative, a national initiative that began in 2019 as a partnership among the Department of Health and Human Services and other federal agencies (e.g., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute of Health), seeks to increase PrEP engagement for groups experiencing HIV inequities, including Latino sexual minority men (LSMM). Given the limited research on PrEP modality preferences

Preferences for Monthly Oral PrEP Over Other PrEP Modalities Among a National Sample of Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex With Men in the United States.

INTRODUCTION: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) cannot meaningfully affect the HIV epidemic in the United States without improving access to PrEP and reducing PrEP disparities among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM), especially GBM of color. A patient-centered approach to increase PrEP options will offer better PrEP solutions to GBM. We sought to understand how GBM prefer current and emerging PrEP modalities. METHODS: We conducted a national online survey among adult GBM to determine preferences for current and emerging PrEP modalities (daily, on-demand, and monthly oral,

Preexposure prophylaxis initiation and alcohol-related sexual risk among young men who have sex with men.

OBJECTIVE: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is a significant public health concern, particularly among young men who have sex with men (YMSM). Preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is highly effective in preventing HIV infection. However, PrEP does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections. Previous studies have shown unintended consequences following PrEP initiation, including increased sexual risk behaviors. Problematic alcohol use, to which YMSM are particularly vulnerable, may also play a role in increasing sexual risk. The present study examines the prospective relati
