Facile Synthesis of Naphtha-quinoxaline Derivatives from β-lapachone Using Graphene Oxide as Catalyst.

OBJECTIVE: To develop efficient method for the synthesis of naphtha-quinoxaline derivatives via the reaction of β-lapachone with various 1,2-diamines. METHODS: A mixture of β-lapachone (1mmol), 1,2-diamine (1mmol) and graphene oxide (20mg) in methanol (3mL) was heated at 60°C, under constant stirring for appropriate time. After completion of the reaction, the catalyst was filtered off, washed with ethyl acetate (3x3mL) and the combined filtrate was washed with H2O, dried (anhy. Na2SO4) and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was chromatographed over a column of silica gel eluting with a mi…

Anti-inflammatory, analgesic and in vivo-in vitro wound healing potential of the Phlomis rigida Labill. extract.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: The preparations of Phlomis aerial parts are used traditionally in Anatolia for wound healing and in inflammatory disorders. METHODS: For the identification of the active fraction, the air dried aerial parts of Phlomis rigida Labill. were extracted by methanol and fractionated successively by n-hexane, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate, respectively. The phenolic constituents were characterized by the Folin-Ciocaltheu method; the antioxidant activity was performed by ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging assays. In vitro anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by L…

Simultaneous determination of organotin compounds in textiles by gas chromatography-flame photometry following liquid/liquid partitioning with tert-butyl ethyl ether after reflux-extraction.

A rapid and relatively clean method for determining six organotin compounds (OtC) in textile goods with a gas chromatograph equipped with a conventional flame photometric detector (GC-FPD) has been developed. After the reflux-extraction to use methanol containing 1% (v/v) of hydrochloric acid, five hydrophobic OtC (e.g. tributyltin: TBT) and slightly less hydrophobic dibutyltin (DBT) could be drawn out through partitioning between the methanolic buffer solution and tert-butyl ethyl ether instead of hazardous dichloromethane, of which usage is provided by the official-methods notified in Japan,…

The antiviral activity of six South African plants traditionally used against infections in ethnoveterinary medicine.

Viral infections remain a major threat to humans and animals and there is a crucial need for new antiviral agents especially with the development of resistant viruses. The hexane, dichloromethane, acetone and methanol extracts of six plant species selected for their traditional use against infections were tested for in vitro antiviral activity against canine distemper virus (CDV), canine parainfluenza virus-2 (CPIV-2), feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1) and lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV). All extracts were tested for their cytotoxicity using a colorimetric tetrazolium-based (MTT) assay and were tes…

Solanidine hydrolytic extraction and separation from the potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) vines by using solid-liquid-liquid systems.

Solanidine is a steroidal aglycon of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) glycoalkaloids and a very important precursor for the synthesis of hormones and some pharmacologically active compounds. Glycoalkaloids are hydrolyzed by mineral acid, yielding solanidine. This paper deals with the kinetics of solanidine hydrolytic extraction in different solid-liquid-liquid systems. The dried and milled potato (S. tuberosum L.) vines were used as a source of glycoalkaloids and as the solid phase. The solutions of hydrochloric acid in 2 and 10% (w/v) aqueous acetic acid, in 50% (volume) aqueous methanol, and in…

Simultaneous quantitation of opioids in blood by GC-EI-MS analysis following deproteination, detautomerization of keto analytes, solid-phase extraction, and trimethylsilyl derivatization.

Seven opioid analytes including codeine, morphine, 6-acetylmorphine, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone, and oxymorphone were detected in postmortem blood (n > 1000). Two milliliters of specimen was deproteinated with approximately 2.5 mL of methanol and derivatized with hydroxylamine before solid-phase extraction and derivatization with BSTFA + 1% TMCS. Extracts were assayed by gas chromatography-electron impact-mass spectrometry utilizing selected ion mode. One-microliter aliquots were injected onto an HP-1MS capillary column (30 m x 0.25-mm i.d., 0.25 microm) with a helium linear velocit…

Light-induced oxidative dehydrogenation of 12,13-dihydro-5H-indolo[3,2-c]acridine.

Photochemical dehydrogenation of the 1,3-cyclohexadiene-type ring of 12,13-dihydro-5H-indolo[3,2-c]acridine (1) by singlet oxygen was observed in n-hexane, acetonitrile and methanol. UV irradiation of 1 leads exclusively to the formation of 13H-indolo[3,2-c]acridine (2) and hydrogen peroxide, where 1 can itself act as a singlet oxygen sensitiser. Although this type of photooxidation reaction for 1 might be expected also to yield addition products, such as endoperoxides or hydroperoxides, the oxygenated species were not detected. Our findings are rationalised by DFT calculations of relative ene…
