STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study.
OBJECTIVES: To report the results and the technique of posterior vertebral column resection (PVCR) in fixed lumbosacral deformity.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Fixed lumbosacral deformity has gross imbalance as well as progressive compensatory thoracolumbar deformity because of the absence of a mobile spine caudally. There is no consensus of the surgical treatment of fixed lumbosacral deformity. Fixed lumbosacral deformity can be managed by PVCR, which not only corrects the deformity but also restores the trunk balance by translation of spinal column.

Percutaneous epiphysiodesis using transphyseal screws (PETS) is a relatively new procedure being used for the correction of moderate leg length discrepancy and angular deformities in children. Over a mean follow-up of 2.4 years the authors followed prospectively 18 patients who underwent PETS. Nine had correction of angular deformity and nine had leg length inequality. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of rectangle titanium cage (SynCage-C) in the anterior cervical spine fusion.
METHODS: Nineteen patients underwent anterior cervical discectomy and interbody fusion using SynCage-C with average follow-up of 9 months.

The incidence and causes of perioperative ulnar neuropathy in a prospective series of 203 consecutive patients were examined. Three percent of patients had ulnar neuropathy develop in the entire prospective series. The incidence was 6% in patients having total hip arthroplasty. There was a highly significant association between a tilted body position on the operating table and development of ulnar neuropathy on the contralateral side. This position rotates the arm internally and places the ulnar nerve at risk for direct compression.

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with severe pectus excavatum is a surgical challenge. A two-stage correction of sternal deformities and cardiac lesions has been described and myocardial revascularization through a left lateral thoracotomy is a valid alternative in urgent situations. We report a one-stage repair of severe pectus excavatum and CABG with the use of bilateral internal thoracic arteries in a young patient requiring urgent myocardial revascularization. The technical aspects and operative consideration are discussed.
