Association of Home-Based Cardiac Rehabilitation With Lower Mortality in Patients With Cardiovascular Disease: Results From the Veterans Health Administration Healthy Heart Program.

Background Home-based cardiac rehabilitation (HBCR) and traditional facility-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs have similar effects on mortality in clinical trials and meta-analyses. However, the effect of HBCR on mortality in clinical practice settings is less clear. Therefore, we sought to compare mortality rates in HBCR participants versus nonparticipants. Methods and Results We evaluated all patients who were referred to and eligible for outpatient CR between 2013 and 2018 at the San Francisco Veterans Health Administration. Patients who chose to attend facility-based CR and those

Enriching a randomized controlled treatment trial for anorexia nervosa by lived experience-Chances and effects of a lived experience council in the SUSTAIN study.

BACKGROUND: The development and advancement of treatment and care options is one priority in the field of eating disorders. The inclusion of persons with lived experience with eating disorders into clinical research could enrich and accelerate this endeavor, as they can add different perspectives on the disease and its treatment. Although lived experience perspectives are increasingly part of eating disorder research, they have not been widely or structurally implemented into clinical trials and there is limited information on the practice of participatory research, its framework and consequen

Long-Term Functional Outcomes After Surgery of Functional Popliteal Artery Entrapment Syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Functional popliteal artery entrapment syndrome (fPAES) is a subtype of PAES without anatomic abnormalities entrapment of the popliteal artery. One of the management of symptomatic fPAES is surgical exploration of the popliteal region with popliteal artery release with lysis of fibrous bands. There is a lack of data regarding the long-term functional results of this surgery, most of the studies focusing on vascular patency in anatomical PAES. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of surgery in functional PAES, focusing on long-term physical activity return after surgery

The Prevalence and Nature of Eating and Swallowing Problems in Adults with Fibromyalgia: A Systematic Review.

Fibromyalgia is a complex chronic pain condition characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, and sleep disturbances. People with fibromyalgia can experience both autonomic and somatic disturbances, cognitive and mental health symptoms, and hypersensitivity to external stimuli. Fibromyalgia often co-occurs with a range of well-researched comorbidities (e.g., temporomandibular disorders, migraine, and irritable bowel syndrome). However, emerging research suggests that individuals with fibromyalgia also often experience eating, drinking, and swallowing problems (e.g., odynop

Efficacy and safety of adalimumab for inflammatory flare prevention in paediatric non-infectious anterior uveitis with peripheral retinal vascular leakage: a study protocol for a single-centre, randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Paediatric patients with chronic anterior uveitis are more prone to suffer from the chronic course of intraocular inflammation and adverse effects of long-term immunomodulatory therapy, either topical glucocorticosteroids or systemic immunomodulatory agents. The performance of adalimumab has been shown to be fairly favourable in treating refractory non-infectious uveitis, but the detailed indication is still under investigation. This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of adalimumab for inflammatory flare prevention in non-infectious paediatric anterior uveitis with peri

Telephone-based support for physical activity: Results and lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Physical activity is essential to maintain physical and mental well-being. During the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person physical activity opportunities were limited. This paper describes a telephone-based physical activity support strategy among racially/ethnically diverse patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Adult patients at a large, Federally Qualified Health Center with an on-site exercise facility referral were eligible to transition to telephone support with personal fitness advisors during the pandemic stay-at-home orders. Baseline surveys assessed physical activity and environmental chara

Long-Term Psychosocial Consequences of Whole-Body Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Reporting of Incidental Findings in a Population-Based Cohort Study.

Management of radiological incidental findings (IF) is of rising importance; however, psychosocial implications of IF reporting remain unclear. We compared long-term psychosocial effects between individuals who underwent whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with and without reported IF, and individuals who did not undergo imaging. We used a longitudinal population-based cohort from Western Europe. Longitudinal analysis included three examinations (exam 1, 6 years prior to MRI; exam 2, MRI; exam 3, 4 years after MRI). Psychosocial outcomes included PHQ-9 (Patient Health Questionnaire), D

Do randomised controlled trials evaluating functional outcomes following botulinum neurotoxin-A align with focal spasticity guidelines? A systematic review.

PURPOSE: The impact of botulinum neurotoxin-A (BoNT-A) on functional outcomes when managing focal muscle spasticity remains unclear. It is possible that randomised controlled trial (RCT) design and/or reporting may be a contributing factor. The objective of this review was to determine the extent to which RCTs evaluating functional outcomes following BoNT-A align with focal spasticity guidelines. MATERIALS AND METHODS: RCTs published from 2010 were included if they targeted focal spasticity, included BoNT-A, randomised a physical intervention to the upper/lower limb, or the primary outcome(s)
