Since the first description of the submental island flap 24 years ago, advances in techniques have expanded the indications for its use and improved its characteristics to make it a favourable reconstructive option for orofacial oncological defects. We describe our experience (particularly perioperatively) of its use, the complications, and the precautions adopted. Using age and height matched cohorts with unilateral idiopathic clubfeet (n=40 each), we retrospectively reviewed pedobarographic studies to determine the impact of treatment, Ponseti versus comprehensive surgical releases (CSR), on the foot length, width, and contact area. We retrospectively reviewed the indications and outcomes of ileal-ureter substitution cases for complex ureteral reconstruction.
