Ensemble machine learning classifiers based on computed tomography radiomics for predicting spread through air spaces in lung adenocarcinoma: a multicenter retrospective cohort study with transcriptomic interpretation.

BACKGROUND: Spread through air spaces (STAS) in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is associated with adverse outcomes and may have implications for surgical planning. We aimed to develop and externally validate an ensemble machine learning model integrating preoperative computed tomography (CT) radiomics and clinicoradiological (CR) features for the prediction of STAS. METHODS: This multicenter retrospective study included 1,206 patients with stage I LUAD from three centers, of whom 384 had STAS-positive tumors. Patients from two centers were divided into a training set (n=675) and an internal test

An interpretable machine-learning model for early prediction of acute kidney injury in polytrauma patients.

OBJECTIVE: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent and clinically important complication after polytrauma, but early risk stratification remains challenging because conventional diagnostic criteria depend on delayed changes in serum creatinine and urine output. This study aimed to develop and interpret an early prediction model for incident AKI in adult ICU patients with polytrauma using routinely available data from the first 6 h after ICU admission. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective observational study using MIMIC-IV as the primary development and internal validation dataset. Incident A

Early identification of acute kidney injury progression in critically ill patients with sepsis: interpretable machine learning approach.

BACKGROUND: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and severe complication of sepsis and is often associated with a poor prognosis. However, there is still a lack of an effective prediction model for early identification of AKI progression in critical septic patients, defined as AKI stage 1 or 2 to stage 3 within 7 days after diagnosis of sepsis-associated AKI (SA-AKI). METHODS: We extracted the clinical data of patients with SA-AKI from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC) datasets, eICU Collaborative Research Database (eICU-CRD) and Salzburg Intensive Care database (SICdb)

Advanced quantum computing-driven digital twin for energy and timing optimization in low-power VLSI circuits &IoT devices.

The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has created a critical demand for highly energy-efficient and timing-accurate Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) circuits. Traditional simulation and modeling techniques often fall short in capturing real-time performance metrics, particularly under dynamic operating conditions and process variations. Digital Twin (DT) technology has emerged as a transformative approach, enabling real-time mirroring and prediction of physical systems. However, classical DT frameworks are computationally limited when simulating complex VLSI behaviors involv

Pharmacogenomic characterization of a uric acid metabolism-related signature associated with prognosis and drug sensitivity in gastric cancer.

Gastric cancer (GC) remains a major cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Increasing evidence suggests that metabolic reprogramming contributes to GC progression, yet the prognostic significance of uric acid metabolism-related genes in GC remains unclear. This study aimed to characterize uric acid metabolism-related genes with prognostic and pharmacological relevance in gastric cancer and to explore their potential value for risk stratification and drug-response prediction. Differentially expressed genes between tumor and normal tissues were obtained from public databases and intersecte

Transcriptome-based molecular subgroup identification and prognosis stratification in pediatric AML.

Current risk subgroups for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) rely primarily on molecular and cytogenetic markers. These subgroups have distinct clinicopathological and molecular characteristics and are the basis for classifying disease subgroups currently undergoing clinical trials and initial subgroup-oriented therapies. However, substantial biological heterogeneity and differences in survival are apparent within each subgroup, so transcriptome-based molecular subgroup identification and prognostic stratification in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia remain to be resolved. In this study, we conducte

Assessing perioperative risks in a mixed elderly surgical population using machine learning: A multi-objective symbolic regression approach to cardiorespiratory fitness derived from cardiopulmonary exercise testing.

Accurate preoperative risk assessment is of great value to both patients and clinical teams. Several risk scores have been developed but are often not calibrated to the local institution, limited in terms of data input into the underlying models, and/or lack individual precision. Machine Learning (ML) models have the potential to address limitations in existing scoring systems. A database of 1190 elderly patients who underwent major elective surgery was analyzed retrospectively. Preoperative cardiorespiratory fitness data from cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), demographic and clinical d

Explainable AI-based feature importance analysis for ovarian cancer classification with ensemble methods.

INTRODUCTION: Ovarian Cancer (OC) is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths among women. Despite recent advances in the medical field, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy interventions, there are only marginal improvements in the diagnosis of OC using clinical parameters, as the symptoms are very non-specific at the early stage. Owing to advances in computational algorithms, such as ensemble machine learning, it is now possible to identify complex patterns in clinical parameters. However, these complex patterns do not provide deeper insights into prediction and diagnosis. Expla
