A 37-year-old male visited our hospital complaining of right scrotal mass formation. An elastic hard, fist-size mass was found in the right scrotum. Under the diagnosis of an intrascrotal benign tumor, the mass was removed. The tumor had no relation to the testis or epididymis. The surgical specimen weighted 220 g and measured 13 x 8 x 8 cm in size. Histopathological diagnosis was epidermal cyst of the intrascrotum. Epidermal cyst of the intrascrotum is a rare disease and only 13 cases have been previously reported in Japan.

The authors review the history of forced advancing of teeth and describe 10 patients with 10 upper teeth (3 lateral and 6 central canines and 1 first molar) with root fractures near the alveolar osseous crest which were treated by orthodontic forced advancing of the roots. For this purpose an orthodontic device consisting of an arch, provisional pin with a hook, and elastic traction were used. The rate of tooth advancing and time of adjacent periodontium rehabilitation were measured. The treatment was effective in all the cases, this recommending it for wide dental practice.

An unusual localization of intranasal angiomyolipoma is described in an adult male patient with no signs of tuberous sclerosis. The lesion was composed of mature fat cells, vascular spaces with lack of elastic tissue, and presence of bundles of mature smooth muscle cells. Compression therapy of vein and lymph vessel diseases of the lower extremities has been used for over 2 1/2 millenia. A short historic survey is given. The theoretic basis is to prevent edema by helping the pump action of the calf muscles reverse the pathologic caudad blood flow upward toward the vena cava inferior, and to attempt to fix a fresh thrombus in the calf veins and thus prevent pulmonary embolism. The available material, including bandages, elastic stockings, the technique, indications, complications, and especially allergic skin reactions are discussed.

Condylo-cephalic nailing which has been developed by Ender is described. Three elastic pins are inserted at the proximal part of the medial femoral condyle and passed through the femur across the fracture into the head of the femur. The operative procedure is very simple and not hazardous to elderly patients. A special advantage is early weight-bearing. One hundred and three patients with intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fracture were treated by this method. The average age was seventy-six years. Our own experiments have shown that this method can allow immediate weight-bearing.

A case is reported of transient unilateral blindness following general anaesthesia with a face mask. The most likely explanation for this is central retinal artery occlusion, either partial or complete, due to excessive pressure from the mask exerted on the globe. This pressure may be increased with the use of neoprene head straps as opposed to the more flexible and elastic rubber straps. Pressure from the strap over the carotid artery may be a factor in reducing the central retinal arterial pressure, thus making it more susceptible to occlusion by mask pressure.

An incidental finding is described of extralobar sequestration of the lung in a Nigerian child, presenting as an anterior mediastinal polycystic mass. The mass was attached to the right pulmonary artery by a fibrovascular pedicle which contained a small elastic artery, veins, and nerve bundles. PURPOSE: To assess induced oscillating volumetric strain as a biomarker for intrahepatic blood pressure abnormalities.
