Cultural Adaptation and Pilot Implementation of Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care for Emergency Physicians (EPEC-EM) for Emergency Medicine Practice in Japan.

INTRODUCTION: Japan's aging population has increased emergency presentations among patients near the end of life, yet formal palliative care training for emergency physicians remains limited. The U.S.-developed Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care for Emergency Medicine (EPEC-EM) program offers structured education in communication and symptom management. We piloted a cultural adaptation of selected modules for the Japanese emergency care context. METHODOLOGY: A multidisciplinary Japan-United States team adapted three modules (Trajectories & Prognoses, Breaking Bad News, and Dyspnea M

Divergent perceptions of the emergency consultation process between emergency physicians and consultants: a cross-sectional survey with latent class and dyadic risk analysis.

OBJECTIVES: The emergency consultation process is a high-stakes interface between emergency and specialist physicians, yet systematic differences in how each party perceives this process remain poorly characterized. This study aimed to quantify the perception gap between emergency physicians (EPs) and consultants (CNs) across multiple consultation domains and to identify distinct perception profiles and dyadic conflict risk patterns. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was administered to 186 physicians (81 EPs, 105 CNs) in Türkiye between January 2024 and January 2026, using parallel EP- and C

"Barefoot and bleeding": Emergency nurses' experiences caring for Palestinian working children presenting to emergency departments in the West Bank-A qualitative descriptive study.

INTRODUCTION: Hazardous child labor is an important cause of preventable injury requiring emergency care. In the occupied West Bank, children as young as 11 work in agricultural settlements under hazardous conditions beyond Palestinian labor law enforcement. Emergency nurses are often the first healthcare professionals to assess these injuries, identify safeguarding concerns, and initiate care, yet their experiences remain absent from the literature. METHODS: This qualitative descriptive study employed semi-structured interviews with 19 emergency nurses purposively recruited from six hospital

Implementation of an emergency nursing pathway reduces emergency department length of stay in trauma: Retrospective analysis and machine learning-based risk modeling.

Timely, organized emergency care is critical for patients with severe trauma, particularly in primary hospitals where resources and workflows may be constrained. This study evaluated the effect of implementing an emergency nursing pathway (ENP) on emergency management of injured patients in a county-level hospital and developed a predictive model to identify factors associated with outcomes. We retrospectively reviewed patients with trauma treated at The First People's Hospital of Jiande between August 2023 and July 2025. Patients were allocated at random into a training cohort (70%) and a val

ESR Essentials: Gynaecological causes of acute pelvic pain in women: a primer for emergent evaluation-practice recommendations by the European Society of Emergency Radiology.

Acute pelvic pain (APP) is a common presentation in women of all ages and has both gynaecological and non-gynaecological causes. In the emergency department, the suspected differential diagnosis dictates the chosen imaging modality. For premenopausal patients with APP, transabdominal ultrasound (TAUS) and transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) are first-line investigations with high sensitivity and specificity for ectopic pregnancy, adnexal torsion, and ovarian cysts and their complications. US may also be valuable in pelvic inflammatory disease. When a non-gynaecological cause is suspected, contrast-
