Knowledge and attitude toward HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis among women of reproductive age in Tanzania: Insights from the 2022 Tanzania health demographic survey.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an antiretroviral medication used to prevent human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Owing to the high incidence and prevalence of HIV Infection among women compared to men, PrEP has the potential to reduce the rate of HIV infection among women in sub-Saharan Africa, including Tanzania. This study aimed to assess women's knowledge of and attitudes toward PrEP and its associated factors as an effective strategy for HIV prevention, using nationwide data. This study utilized data from the 2022 Tanzania demographic and health survey conducted between Februa

Cultural threads of memory: barriers and motivations for brain health, physical activity and nutrition among middle-aged and older Latinos.

OBJECTIVES: Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) are projected to increase in the Latino population. Physical activity (PA) and adhering to the Mediterranean-DASH diet for Neurodegenerative Delay (MIND) have been shown to reduce the risk of AD/ADRD. However, limited research has explored Spanish-speaking Latinos' perceptions of PA and nutritional changes for brain health. Thus, the purpose of this study was to (1) explore Latinos' perceptions of brain health and health behavior modifications related to PA and nutrition to promote brain health and (2) amplify the voices of low-in

OBJECTIVE: To characterize opioid-related health beliefs among homeless-experienced individuals with OUD and examine their alignment with opioid use severity. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of individuals initiating opioid treatment at a homeless healthcare program in Boston, Massachusetts. The survey assessed key Health Belief Mode

Perceptions of Chemoprevention Among Women at High Risk for Breast Cancer.

IMPORTANCE: Breast cancer (BC) chemoprevention (CP) is highly effective in reducing invasive BC risk, yet uptake among eligible women at high risk remains critically low. Prior research has not adequately examined CP decision-making alongside other primary prevention therapies, such as statins, in the practical context of multimorbidity and polypharmacy. OBJECTIVE: To identify cognitive, emotional, and perceptual factors associated with accepting statins while declining or deferring breast cancer chemoprevention. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: In this exploratory qualitative study, in-de

Exploring socio-demographic determinants of breast self-examination practices among Jordanian women: insights from the 2023 population-based survey.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among Jordanian women. Breast self-examination (BSE) plays a vital role in the early detection of breast cancer, improving survival rates. Despite its proven benefits, BSE remains underutilized in Jordan. This study aimed to explore the factors influencing BSE practices among married Jordanian women aged 20-49 years, utilizing data from the Jordan Population and Family Health Survey (JPFHS). METHODS: The study analyzed data from the 2023 JPFHS, encompassing a representative sample of 12,595 J

Public awareness, knowledge gaps, and health anxiety concerning microplastics in human blood: a cross-sectional survey of Indian adults.

BACKGROUND: The detection of microplastics (MPs) in human blood has sparked global concern, yet public understanding and associated anxiety in high-exposure regions like India remain underexplored. METHODS: This cross-sectional survey (September 2023-March 2025) involved 1,200 Indian adults using stratified sampling across age, gender, education, income, and urban/rural residence. A validated 30-item questionnaire assessed awareness sources, knowledge accuracy, and MP-specific anxiety (adapted GAD-7). Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multivariate logistic

Women's Self-Management of Urinary Incontinence: A Qualitative Study Using the Proactive Health Behavior Framework.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common condition among middle-aged and older women. Despite well-established international guidelines for conservative treatment, patient adherence remains sub-optimal, highlighting a discrepancy between recommendations and practical implementation. This study is aimed at exploring the multidimensional factors influencing the self-management behaviors of patients with UI using the Proactive Health Behavior (PHB) framework. METHODS: A descriptive, qualitative design was used in this study. Guided by the PHB, semi-structured face-to-fa

Investigating Beliefs Toward Physical Activity in Pregnancy Among Women With and Without Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

OBJECTIVES: Physical activity (PA) is beneficial for pregnant women, including those who develop gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, only a few are sufficiently active to reap health benefits. In this prospective cohort study we aimed to: 1) validate the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) model for predicting moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) among pregnant women; 2) examine whether the model varies by GDM status (with or without GDM); and 3) identify beliefs predicting intention toward MVPA and assess whether these beliefs differ by GDM status. METHODS: Women with and without GDM compl

In the Light of Healthcare Professionals: Beliefs About Chronic Low Back Pain.

Background and Objectives: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a prevalent condition that impairs quality of life, functionality, and work productivity. While most acute episodes of back pain resolve, 4-25% become chronic due to factors such as high pain intensity, psychological distress, and maladaptive behaviors. Nonspecific CLBP is best understood through the biopsychosocial model, encompassing biological, psychological, and social influences, including kinesiophobia. Management relies on physical activity, pain education, and psychological interventions, with therapist knowledge and attitudes

"Heartbreak and Frustration'' experiences of healthcare providers caring for pregnant women with sickle cell disease in Uganda.

INTRODUCTION: Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a hereditary hemoglobinopathy that poses significant risks during pregnancy, leading to increased maternal complications such as Vaso-occlusive crises, acute chest syndrome, preeclampsia, preterm labor, and perinatal complications such as preterm births, low birthweights and mortality. The complexities surrounding the management of SCD extend beyond the clinical symptoms and require a comprehensive understanding of the social, emotional, and systemic factors that influence patient outcomes. While existing research has largely focused on the epidemiolo

Community and healthcare worker contributions to malaria prevention: a culturally tailored behaviour change approach in Jozini, South Africa.

BACKGROUND: According to the national strategic plan, South Africa aims to eliminate malaria by 2030. Only three out of 9 provinces are malaria endemic. These are Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal provinces. It is important to investigate community and healthcare worker perceptions regarding malaria prevention, control and elimination interventions to enable development of a Social Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) strategy for Jozini local municipality to complement the National Strategic Plan 2025-2030. METHODS: A cross-sectional mixed-method study was c

User and Provider Experiences with a Digital Health Family Planning Counseling Tool for Women Living with HIV in Kenya.

Women living with HIV(WLHIV) have diverse and complex reproductive health needs that require patient-centered, informed decision-making. Digital tools to support reproductive life planning may improve reproductive health counseling and outcomes for these women. We evaluated user experiences with a self-administered, tablet-based family planning (FP) counseling tool as part of a digital health intervention implemented within a cluster randomized trial in Kenya. We conducted 10 focus group discussions with WLHIV (n = 95) who received the counseling tool and in-depth interviews (n = 10) with prov
