[Femoral neck fractures in childhood].

Twenty-eight fractures of the neck of the femur occurred in children between 1963 and 1982 were treated and followed up at the Pediatric Surgical Hospital of the University of Mainz. Three children had transepiphyseal fractures (type I), eight children transcervical fractures (typ II), six children cervicobasal fractures (typ III), and eleven children pertrochanteric fractures (typ IV). Surgical intervention was performed in fifteen children, and thirteen children were submitted to conservative treatment. The results were evaluated according to a new system considering troubles, mobility, and

Coding and noncoding RNA profile of human heterotopic ossifications - Risk factors and biomarkers.

Heterotopic ossification (HO) means the formation of bone in muscles and soft tissues, such as ligaments or tendons. HO could have a genetic history or develop after a traumatic event, as a result of muscle injury, fractures, burns, surgery, or neurological disorders. Many lines of evidence suggest that the formation of HO is related to the pathological differentiation of stem or progenitor cells present within soft tissues or mobilized from the bone marrow. The cells responsible for the initiation and progression of HO are generally called HO precursor cells. The exact mechanisms behind the d

Relationship Between Gonadal Function and Cardiometabolic Risk in Young Men With Chronic Spinal Cord Injury.

BACKGROUND: We reported previously that young men with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI) have a greater prevalence of testosterone deficiency compared with an age-matched, healthy control population. Young men with SCI also are at increased risk for developing cardiometabolic dysfunction after injury. It is unclear whether testosterone deficiency is associated with heightened cardiometabolic risk in men with SCI. OBJECTIVE: To investigate associations among levels of testosterone in young men with chronic SCI and surrogate markers of cardiometabolic risk. DESIGN: Secondary cross-sectional ana

Proximal femoral fractures in centenarians. A retrospective analysis of 39 patients.

BACKGROUND: A corollary of the current population ageing in France is an increase in proximal femoral fractures (PFFs), particularly among centenarians. The outcomes of PFFs in centenarians in France are unknown. We therefore conducted a retrospective study of centenarians with PFFs both to assess: (1) assess clinical outcomes according to geriatric and trauma scores, (2) and to determine whether routine surgery is warranted. HYPOTHESIS: Morbidity and mortality in a single-centre cohort of centenarians with surgically treated PFFs are consistent with previous reports. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We

Lower limb biomechanics and knee tissue loading under fatigue during the badminton forward lunge in recreational female players.

BACKGROUND: Badminton is widely promoted as a lifelong physical activity, yet repetitive forward lunges performed under fatigue may increase the risk of knee injury, particularly among recreational female players. Although fatigue-related changes in lower-limb biomechanics have been reported, their influence on tissue-level knee loading remains unclear. This study investigated the effects of fatigue on lower-limb biomechanics and internal knee loading during the badminton forehand forward lunge. METHODS: A within-subject repeated-measures experimental design was used. Sixteen recreational fem

Challenges in Sequential Antiresorptive Therapy After Long-Term Denosumab Discontinuation: A Case Report and Narrative Review of the Literature.

Background/Objectives: Discontinuation of long-term denosumab (Dmab) remains a major clinical challenge because of rebound activation of bone remodeling and increased vertebral fracture risk. Intravenous zoledronate (ZOL) is widely recommended as sequential therapy, although evidence after very prolonged Dmab exposure is limited. We report a patient who developed two rare adverse events-acute hepatocellular injury and delayed inflammatory polyarthritis-following a single ZOL infusion administered after 12 years of continuous Dmab treatment. The subsequent management of persistent rebound bone

Methods for assessing submarining occurrence in PMHS frontal sled tests: Exploring potential indicators.

OBJECTIVE: Assessment of submarining occurrence in PMHS (Post-Mortem Human Subject) testing can be challenging, particularly for obese PMHS. This study investigates varied kinetic and kinematic response parameters as potential indicators of submarining. Data from 36 whole-body PMHS frontal sled tests conducted under varying boundary conditions were analyzed, incorporating three spring-controlled seat configurations, two extreme anthropometric profiles, two crash pulses, and two seatback angles. METHODS: Submarining assessment was based on seven response parameters: (1) Visual inspection of vi
