The mucosal calcified nodule is a rare oral lesion that has a predilection for the young child. This case report describes an infant with a persistent and tender gingival swelling associated with an unerupted, maxillary central incisor. Besides a differential diagnosis for this entity, the causes of abnormal calcium deposits within the skin of children are discussed.

Observations of 31 patients aged 16-31 years (11 men and 20 women) with asymmetrical maxillary deformations showed that medical rehabilitation of this patient population requires a comprehensive orthodontic and surgical approach. A case of Binder syndrome was diagnosed at 21 weeks of gestation using two-dimensional and three-dimensional ultrasound. The first indication of any abnormality was a flattened fetal nose demonstrated in the mid-sagittal plane. Further ultrasound imaging showed the virtual absence of the naso-frontal angle, giving the impression of a flat forehead and small fetal nose. Suspected mild hypertelorism was also seen using transverse and coronal planes. Differential diagnosis of this condition is discussed.

Nonsurgical treatment of 3 maxillary lateral incisors with dens invaginatus is reported. Invaginated teeth present technical difficulties with respect to their management because of complicated canal morphology. In the first case reported, apical abscess with incomplete root formation was found at the time of examination. Calcium hydroxide apexification provided favorable conditions for root closure and obturation. The other 2 cases were treated by conventional root canal treatment. Follow-up examinations showed successful clinical results, with osseous healing evident radiographically.

This simplified method is easy to perform and encourages the use of adjunctive orthodontics in general practice. A ten-year-old girl was referred for the management of a recurrent lobulated mass present in the upper anterior region. Histopathological investigations were suggestive of capillary hemangioma. Surgical excision of the lesion was performed and postoperative recovery was uneventful.

In 24 patients, 31 palatal impacted maxillary canines were brought in position using the same surgical and orthodontic concept. Root-resorption of first permanent molars by impacted premolars is generally considered to be rare, although a few cases have been reported. A case is presented, of bilateral root-resorption of upper first permanent molars by unerupted second premolars, and a number of clinical conclusions are discussed.

The effects of an extra chromosome on tooth size were investigated and compared to male and female controls, respectively. Mesiodistal dimensions in men with Klinefelter's syndrome were generally found to be decreased when compared to the male controls. A more pronounced inhibitory effect of an extra X chromosome was observed in the case of incisors and canines, indicating a varied influence on this chromosomal anomaly on dental growth.

In a sample from northern Italy of the second half of the 19th century hypoplasias in maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth was examined. The maxillary canine is the most frequently affected tooth. Frequencies of hypoplasias show slightly lower figures than other 19th century skeletal populations. The age interval most affected was between 2 and 4 years and suggests an association with stress at weaning and immediately thereafter.

Congenital and acquired facial deformities in which the nose is small relative to the rest of the face present a problem in reconstruction. Binder's syndrome is the most common of such deformities, where the noise is both short and lacking tip projection. A method of reconstructing such deformities is described.
