Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by mutations of mismatch repair genes leading to the early development of multiple malignancies. Most endometrial carcinomas metastasize by invading myometrial lymphatics and spreading to regional lymph nodes. However, uterine serous carcinomas (USCs) metastasize frequently to peritoneal surfaces even when only minimally invasive. Central nervous system (CNS) metastasis was noted in 309 patients of 1044 autopsy cases of breast carcinoma. The brain was involved in 193 cases, and cranial dura in 167 cases. In 82 cases, the cranial dura was the sole site of CNS involvement. Metastasis to the leptomeninges was found in 59 cases, and to the spinal cord and dura in 32 cases. BACKGROUND: Primary neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) of the gallbladder are rare entities with a generally unfavorable prognosis. Among the subtypes of gallbladder neuroendocrine neoplasms (GB-NENs), gallbladder mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma (GB-MANEC) is exceptionally rare and associated with a poor prognosis, representing a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge due to its dual differentiation. Atypical or mitotically active dermal smooth muscle neoplasms are uncommon lesions, which are most often termed "cutaneous leiomyosarcoma," although preexisting-mostly small-series suggest a low risk of aggressive behavior. OBJECTIVE: To assess results in patients with primary cysts and tumours of the mediastinum who under- went surgery.
METHODS: A retrospective single-centre study was undertaken into patients with primary cysts and tumours of the mediastinum who underwent surgery between January 1992 and December 2004. We analysed demographic data, clinical presentation, type of surgery carried out and procedure, lesion location and histological diagnosis. Predictive malignancy factors were also evaluated. Postoperative morbidity and mortality were noted, as was medium-term results.

Previous reports found the 67Ga scan highly accurate in staging lung cancer. In the present study the cost-effectiveness of the 67Ga scan was measured and compared with that of routine tests (radionuclide liver and bone scans, brain CT scan) used to stage lung cancer.
