Suicidal risk screening: Oncology nurses' barriers and leverages.

PURPOSE: Suicide is a major issue around the world. Cancer is now well known as a higher risk of suicide. Guidelines recommend that patients need to be screened for suicidal ideation to be referred early to appropriate supportive care. Nurses are primary professional resources. Despite this role in many international studies, oncology nurses felt unable, lacked skills, and feared to deal with suicidal patients. We lack data concerning the care practices of French nurses. This study aims to describe the barriers and facilitators to screen suicidal risk in adult cancer patients by nurses working

Social network size and mental health among older adults in Japan: A nationwide cross-sectional analysis of the JACSIS 2024 study.

INTRODUCTION: Social relationships are crucial for healthy ageing, but the role of social network size in older adults' mental health remains underexplored in nationwide studies. We examined associations between social network size and mental health in a national sample of older Japanese adults. METHODS: We analysed cross-sectional data from the 2024 Japan COVID-19 and Society Internet Survey (JACSIS), a nationwide internet survey, including 6786 respondents aged 65-84 years. Mental health outcomes were poor mental health days in the past 30 days (any vs none; ≥7 vs < 7 days) and psychologica

"The Most Difficult Conversations We Have": Resident Experiences With Pediatric Neuroprognostication.

OBJECTIVE: Pediatric neuroprognostication is often complicated by uncertainty and embedded in high-stakes medical decisions. For child neurology residents, participation in neuroprognostication can represent key learning experiences but also comes with emotional and ethical challenges, which poses a risk of moral distress. This study sought to describe contextual influences and impacts on residents participating in neuroprognostication. METHODS: One-on-one, semi-structured virtual interviews were conducted with senior (postgraduate year 5-6) child neurology residents. Deidentified transcripts

Turning hardship into wisdom: Rwandan youth responses to childhood experiences of intimate partner violence.

BACKGROUND: Childhood experiences of intimate partner violence (CEIPV) remain under-documented from the perspectives of children and youth in Rwanda, and East Africa in general. Most existing research often relies on adult proxies, overlooking the narrative agency and lived experiences of young people (YP). OBJECTIVE: This study explores how Rwandan youth with CEIPV, name, story and historicize their experiences and responses to harm. It examines how storytelling, memory work, and peer witnessing contribute to meaning-making, resistance, and healing. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: Thirteen Rwanda

"This Work Belongs to Everyone": Understanding Health Equity Practitioners' Approaches to Addressing Structural Racism in the Context of Racial Health Equity Practice.

Structural racism-which encompasses discriminatory laws/policies, institutional practices, and social norms-is a driver of racialized health inequities in the U.S. Notably, laws/policies at the federal, state, and local levels perpetuate structural racism across all societal domains and are key structural determinants of racial health equity. Health equity practitioners play a critical role in mitigating the impacts of structural racism-related laws/policies through their legal, policy, and community-based work at state and local health departments, community-based organizations, and health po

Bullying-Related Victimization in Clinical Learning Environments: Coping Responses and the Moderating Role of Self-Esteem Among Undergraduate Nursing Students in Sri Lanka.

Bullying-related victimization in clinical learning environments is an important psychosocial stressor in nursing education, with potential implications for students' coping processes and professional development. Although bullying and related interpersonal mistreatment have been widely documented, research has largely focused on prevalence and descriptive experiences, with limited attention to factors influencing students' coping responses. This study examined associations between bullying-related victimization, self-esteem, and coping strategies among undergraduate nursing students in Sri La

At the edge of war: What rapid reinforcement of European defence may mean for military chaplains.

Europe's rapid rearmament in response to Russia's war against Ukraine marks a significant shift away from the post-Cold War era of demilitarisation and expeditionary operations. Within this evolving security landscape, military chaplains (MCs) in NATO member and partner countries may increasingly find themselves operating on the edge of war. This reflective article asks what this new security reality may mean for military chaplaincy in Europe. Challenging reductive understandings that confine chaplaincy to religion or spiritual practice alone, the article suggests that military chaplaincy can

Exploring the current and future role of artificial intelligence in pharmaceutical market access: insights from a European survey.

INTRODUCTION: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly expanding across the pharmaceutical value chain; however, empirical evidence on its application in Market Access (MA) remains limited. Given the strategic relevance and regulatory complexity of MA, understanding current AI adoption and perception represents a significant evidence gap. This study provides one of the first exploratory, European-focused assessments specifically investigating the role of AI in pharmaceutical MA. METHODS: A structured, closed survey was conducted among European pharmaceutical MA executives and senior leaders. T

Violence Towards Companion Animals and Perceived Social Support Among Female Intimate Partner Violence Survivors: The Nonsupport scale of the Personality Assessment Inventory.

Violence towards companion animals (CAs) is prevalent in cases of intimate partner violence (IPV), and several studies have emphasized its impact on survivors' well-being and decision-making process. However, little is known about its effect on perceived social support among female IPV survivors. This study aims to address this gap. In this study, a sample of 70 female IPV survivors who owned a CA at the time of the abuse completed a protocol including the Portuguese version of the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI). Independent samples t-tests compared Nonsupport (NON) scale scores betwee

A cross-sectional study exploring mental health literacy among non-athlete personnel in elite-level road cycling.

BACKGROUND: Elite-level athletes, including professional road cyclists, may be vulnerable to psychiatric disorders, yet help-seeking and care pathways are often impeded by stigma and budgetary constraints. Although sports psychiatry is a growing subdiscipline, mental health initiatives in elite-level road cycling remain limited, possibly leaving coaches and non-athlete personnel ill-equipped to support affected athletes and staff. Consequently, understanding mental health literacy levels among these stakeholders could help identify knowledge gaps and shape future interventions. METHODS: This

The Current Cardio-Oncology Landscape Across Australia.

Cardio-oncology is a rapidly evolving subspecialty at the intersection of cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD), two of Australia's leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Advances in cancer detection and therapy have markedly improved survival, resulting in a growing cohort of more than 1.2 million Australian cancer survivors. However, these patients are at increased risk of cardiovascular toxicity from cancer therapies, with CVD now surpassing recurrent malignancy as a leading cause of late mortality. In response, several quaternary and tertiary Australian public hospitals have establis

Resources and care structures for management of urea cycle disorders in Japan and the United States: A system-level comparison.

BACKGROUND: Urea cycle disorders (UCD) are rare, nutrition-dependent inborn errors of metabolism in which outcomes depend on pharmacological treatment and sustained access to specialized formulas, low-protein medical foods, and dietary counseling. System-level support for dietary management varies across countries, yet comparative analyses are scarce. METHODS: We conducted a structured comparative analysis of dietary management systems for UCD in Japan and the United States (US) using clinical guidelines, policy documents, industry information, and professional reports. Ethical decision-making under stress: the role of the nonreactive facet of mindfulness.

Business students commonly experience high levels of stress, often facing a variety of ethical challenges throughout their education experiences and well into their professional lives. Complicating matters, past research shows that such stress may compromise the processes associated with individual ethical decision-making (EDM). Some research indicates that individual differences, namely mindfulness, can benefit EDM. However, few if any studies have considered how mindfulness may mitigate adverse effects of stress on EDM. Many models of the EDM process have assumed a primary role for cognitive

An Evidence-Informed Clinical Pathway for COPD Exacerbations in Emergency Departments: Diagnostic Assessment, Severity Stratification, and Individualized Management.

Background/Objectives: Exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are a common reason for emergency department (ED) attendance and hospital admission. Acute respiratory worsening is non-specific, and previous spirometric confirmation may be unavailable at presentation. We aimed to translate current recommendations into an ED-specific clinical pathway that standardizes safety-critical steps without replacing individualized clinical judgment. Methods: We performed a targeted synthesis of international and Spanish guidance and key studies relevant to ED diagnosis, severity asse
