A 64-year-old man with newly diagnosed prostate cancer underwent 18 F-Piflufolastat PET/CT. Radiotracer avidity localized to the primary prostate malignancy and to a left rib (SUV max , 9.0). The high 18 F-Piflufolastat avidity may have been mistaken for a metastasis if not for the corresponding CT images demonstrating a well-circumscribed sclerotic rim at the site of the PET focus. This CT finding is uncommon for osseous malignancy, but common in benign fibrous dysplasia. Biopsy confirmed benign fibrous dysplasia. This case emphasizes that benign CT morphology may supersede even high avidity

INTRODUCTION: "Pelvic rib", "pelvic digit (finger)", or "eleventh digit (finger)" is a rare congenital anomaly, in which a finger-like bony structure is present in the soft tissue in the pelvic or abdomen (less common) area.
CASE PRESENTATION: This case report presents a symptomatic "pelvic digit" discovered in a patient referred to the radiology department after prolonged unilateral hip pain, especially during long walks. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of unilateral pelvic digit occurrence in our region. It is an extremely rare condition that is often discovered incidentally

The formation of non-traumatic intramuscular hemorrhages does not depend on the cause of death. They usually occur in the muscles attached to the rib cage, which are or may be involved in the inhalation process (84.6%). More often, non-respiratory muscles are damaged (66%), less often auxiliary respiratory muscles (15.5%), extremely rarely - the main respiratory muscles (3.3%). In hypothermia, the majority of hemorrhages are formed in the iliopsoas muscles (13.9%). The main reason for the appearance of hemorrhages is muscle overstrain in the agonal period due to increased respiratory activity

INTRODUCTION: While the pressure points technique for proximal hemorrhage control is long known, it is not recommended in standard prehospital guidelines based on a study showing the inability to maintain occlusion for over two minutes.
MAIN SYMPTOM: This report details a gunshot wound to the left axillary area with complete transection of the axillary artery, leading to profuse junctional hemorrhage and profound hemorrhagic shock.
THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTION: Proximal pressure of the subclavian artery was applied against the first rib (the pressure points technique) and maintained for 28 minut

We report the first case of a patient with myxofibrosarcoma (MFS) who presented acutely with a rib fracture and developed a rapidly expanding loculated hemothorax after chest trauma. The patient was taken to the operating room for evacuation of hemothorax, and samples and biopsy specimens were taken for cytologic and pathologic examination. Final report with immunohistochemical staining showed a high-grade MFS. After the procedure, there was clinical and radiological improvement, and the patient was followed up as an outpatient. Myxofibrosarcoma is a very rare and aggressive connective tissue

A 42-year-old male police officer sustained multiple injuries in a motorcycle accident, including a comminuted fracture of the scapula and several rib fractures. Four months after his injury, the patient was prescribed outpatient physical therapy, after 2 months of which the patient's cervical and lumbar spine function were restored but his shoulder mobility deficits persisted. A second physical therapy opinion was sought 6 months post injury for the left shoulder. Given his functional deficits, including an inability to return to work, he was referred to an orthopaedist for additional imaging

A 40-year-old female was injured in a car accident while driving. Computed tomography confirmed a dissection localized to the distal aortic arch and hematoma around the area. Severe liver damage with surrounding extravasation was also confirmed. Furthermore, multiple rib fractures and lumbar spine fracture were apparent. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair( TEVAR) was performed after transcatheter arterial embolization to treat the liver injury. As both the iliac and femoral arteries were narrow, the internal iliac artery was transected peripherally and used as an access route. This method doe

We report a case of atrial septal defect (ASD) with severe pectus excavatum. A 50-year-old female had a stroke due to paradoxical embolism from deep vein thrombosis thorough ASD. Her preoperative computed tomography(CT) revealed a severe pectus excavatum (Haller CT index 28.6). The patient underwent ASD closure and repair of the pectus excavatum concomitantly. Median full sternotomy was performed for ASD closure. And we adopted sterno-costal elevation for pectus excavatum repair. Cartilages of the 3rd to the 7th rib were segmentally resected and the remainders were re-sutured to the sternum. T

Defects in cilia cause a spectrum of diseases known as ciliopathies. Nephronophthisis, a ciliopathy, is the most common genetic cause of renal disease. Here, I cloned and analysed a nephronophthisis-related gene ift-139 in Caenorhabditis elegans. ift-139 was exclusively expressed in ciliated neurons in C. elegans. Genetic and cellular analyses suggest that ift-139 plays a role in retrograde intraflagellar transport and is required for cilia formation. A homologous point mutation that causes ciliopathy disrupted the function of ift-139 in C. elegans. ift-139 is an orthologue of human TTC21B, mu

Cushing's disease is a rare condition which may present with a variety of signs and symptoms. In this report, we present a case of a 37-year-old man referred to our department due to osteoporosis complicated with vertebral and rib fractures and loss of six centimeters in height within the previous year. Study of secondary causes of osteoporosis led to the diagnosis of Cushing's disease. The patient was submitted to transsphenoidal surgery and histological findings confirmed the diagnosis. After surgery, the symptoms improved. Glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis may be reversible, but recovery

A case of disseminated pseudallescheriasis in a German Shepherd bitch is presented. Bones (ilium, a rib and phalanges), joints (elbow and acetabulum) and the surrounding tissues were the principal organs affected. In addition, Pseudallescheria boydii was isolated, in lower numbers, from the eye, kidney, lymph nodes draining the affected regions and urine. The dog was euthanized. P. boydii was identified by morphologic characteristics and molecular techniques (beta tubulin sequence). In addition, an ITS nucleotide sequence analysis showed that this strain differed from another isolate identifie

Poland syndrome is an infrequent disease that presents in newborn infants and features an incidence of about one in 7,000 to one in 100,000 live births. The clinical features include an absence of the costosternal portion of the pectoralis major muscle, hypoplasia and/or aplasia of the ipsilateral breast or nipple, hypoplasia of subcutaneous tissue, abnormalities of the rib cage and upper extremity anomalies. We present a male newborn suffering Poland syndrome who featured a depressed left chest wall with respiratory distress. Ultrasonography of the chest revealed the absence of a section of p

Colorectal cancer with bone metastasis as initial manifestation is a very rare event. We have reported a case of rectal cancer presenting with sternal metastasis. A 30 year-old man was evaluated due to pain in the sternal area with a bulging mass. History and physical examination did not suggest any specific disease. A radionuclide bone scan revealed increased uptake in the sternal area, right 6th rib, and sacrum. Microscopic examination of a biopsy specimen from the sternum showed metastatic adenocarcinoma. A barium enema and CT scan of the pelvis suggested carcinoma of the upper rectum. Aden

An analysis of echocardiographic examination in 22 patients operated for funnel chest is presented. Patients were divided into two groups: group I--isolated anomaly, and group II--patients with coexistent other postural deformations. During the operation, rib's cartilages in the parasternal region were excised, sternum was cut transversally above the deformation and longitudinally across it, and than anterior thoracic wall was stabilized in the proper position with Kirschner's wires. Before and 6 months after surgery echocardiographic examinations were performed with systolic, diastolic and ej

Fifty DSH cats were studied radiographically and a highly significant linear correlation was found between the length of the oesophagus measured to the diaphragmatic line on the radiographs and the externally measured distance from the lower jaw incisor teeth to the anterior border of the head of 10th rib. A subsequent manometric study utilizing this correlation in 40 cats suggests that the functional lower oesophageal sphincter (LOS) is situated almost at the level of the diaphragm in the cat. Significant differences were found between the length of the LOS in cats anaesthetized with ketamine
