A microwave regeneration of activated carbon used to remove organic solvents from vented air has been investigated. Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), acetone, and tetrachloroethylene (TCE) vapors were removed from vented air through adsorption onto granular activated carbon. The saturated carbon was then regenerated in a microwave field, where the solvent was quickly desorbed and recovered from the inner pores of the carbon granules. The microwave-induced regeneration restored the original adsorption capacity and surface area of the activated carbon.

A thermal desorption-gas chromatography (GC) system was developed for use with commercial adhesive plasters used for monitoring exposure of hands to common solvents. The efficiency of solvent adsorption on the activated carbon pads located on the plasters was determined for acetone, trichloroethylene, D-limonene, methanol, ethyl methyl ketone, toluene, tetrachloroethylene and m-xylene. Rationale and development of a new fenofibrate formulation is described. A lower dispersion of particles size and thereby a better absorption rate leads to a decrease of the daily dose and provides a better control of the amount absorbed.
