N-acetyl-glutamate synthase (NAGS) deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive urea cycle disorder (UCD) that uncommonly presents in adulthood. Adult presentations of UCDs include; confusional episodes, neuropsychiatric symptoms and encephalopathy. To date, there have been no detailed neurological descriptions of an adult onset presentation of NAGS deficiency. Two isomeric cholesteryl galactosides, cholesteryl beta-D-galactofuranoside and -pyranoside, have been synthesized by the Koenigs-Knorr reaction. Glycosylation of cholesterol with 2,3,5,6-tetra-O-benzoyl-D-galactofuranosyl bromide, followed by Zemplén saponification with sodium methoxide, gave cholesteryl beta-D-galactofuranoside. Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxi-tryptamine), a well-known animal hormone synthetised by the pineal gland, plays a key role in the circadian rhythm of vertebrates. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of infection with Campylobacter fetus subsp. venerealis (Cfv) on the pattern of lectin binding in the uterus and oviduct of heifers. The influence of a high-fat diet on the appearance of renal tumors was assessed in the Eker rat model of hereditary renal carcinoma. Lectin histochemical studies were performed on paraffin embedded sections of the olfactory system of the eel to identify specific glycoconjugates on the surface of primary olfactory neurons. In a series of cases collected in most parts of the world, Sanfilippo disease type A is more frequent than type B. Skin biopsies were obtained from Greek patients suspected for Sanfilippo disease and cultured fibroblasts were assayed for both N-acetyl-a-glucosaminidase and sulfamidase activity. In those rats fed a normal diet and given tea (1:50, w/v) instead of drinking water for 20 weeks, the conversion of [14C] pyruvate to [14C]acetylcholine decreased by 35%. We describe clinical and biochemical changes in seven patients with Huntington disease given isoniazid (INH) in dosages three to five greater than normally used in tuberculosis.
