In fracture-dislocations of the cervical spine with associated injury to the supporting posterior elements, anterior interbody bone block or dowel fusion does not give sufficient stability to the involved area. Additional fixation using an H- or HH-ASIF plate has been employed over the past 2 years in 26 cases. We examined the anatomical and clinical results of a new wrist subphyseal arthrodesis method called chondrodesis, which relies on resorbable suture-bone fixation for children with severe paralytic hand deformities and does not require fixation devices or bone grafting. Recalcitrant humeral non-union is a disabling condition that is extremely difficult to treat. The use of BMP-7 has been proposed to improve bone healing. This is a report of the results obtained in 12 patients with recalcitrant humeral non-union treated using stable fixation with a long locking compression plate and BMP-7, autologous bone graft and hydroxyapatite pellets applied at the non-union site. BACKGROUND: Intra-articular distal humerus fractures frequently require olecranon osteotomies for adequate exposure, but fixation of olecranon osteotomies is associated with high rates of hardware-related complications requiring subsequent reoperation for removal. Intramedullary screw fixation is an attractive option to attempt to minimize hardware prominence. The purpose of this biomechanical study is to directly compare intramedullary screw fixation (IMSF) with plate fixation (PF) of chevron olecranon osteotomies. It was hypothesized that PF would be biomechanically superior to IMSF.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate our 10 years clinical experience in surgical management of patients with bilateral osteoradionecrosis (BORN) of the mandible in head and neck malignancies patients.
