A fasciocutaneous flap on the radial aspect of the distal forearm is an axial flap based on a branch of the distal part of the radial artery. The flap is reinforced by the fasciocutaneous arteries arising from the dorsal carpal rete. The vascular anatomy and the cutaneous territorial definition of the flap has been studied by cadaveric dissection of injected specimens using coloured latex and methylene blue solution. We present the case of a mentally normal 7 year old girl with short stature, scoliosis, atrial septal defect, and dysmorphic features including linear pigmented streaks on the forearms and lower legs. Chromosome analysis of cultured fibroblasts showed trisomy 12 in 9% and 13% of cells from two skin biopsies. Two trisomy 12 cells were found in lymphocytes after analysis of 500 metaphases. Her clinical features are compared with those of other liveborn cases of trisomy 12 mosaicism and the problems of prenatal diagnosis of such an abnormality are discussed.

We report a case of localized cutaneous nocardiosis due to Nocardia asteroides, appearing on the anterior surface of the right forearm of a 29-year-old woman. Examination of the skin revealed a firm subcutaneous nodule measuring 32 x 20 mm and accompanied with a small ulcer. The histology of the lesion showed granulomatous changes interspersed with large numbers of polymorphonuclear leukocytes. A refinement in the correction of deep and shallow constriction rings, in which subcutaneous fat and fascial flaps are advanced into the defect to prevent recurrent contour deformities, is presented. A straight-line dorsal closure is preferred, with Z-plasties placed along the side of the digits, forearm, or arm. Long-term follow-up is presented in 58 patients with 116 constriction rings corrected by either traditional serial Z-plasties of skin (n = 61 rings) or this new method of contour correction (n = 55 rings). Specific correction of soft tissue is recommended when tissue is available.

Motor nerve conduction studies were carried out on the ipsilateral and contralateral ulnar nerves (arm and forearm segments) in 20 patients presenting with unilateral acute Bell's palsy. In seven of these cases (35%), there was motor conduction delay in one or more segments of the ulnar nerve. Twenty-three children with fractures of the radial neck were reviewed. Fractures with an angulation of greater than 60 degrees were treated by open reduction and internal fixation with transarticular Kirschner wires through the humerus and the radius.
