Catastrophic neurological complications of emergent endotracheal intubation: report of 2 cases.

Although exceedingly rare, catastrophic neurological decline may result from endotracheal intubation of patients with preexisting cervical spine disease. The authors report on 2 cases of quadriplegia resulting from emergent endotracheal intubation in the intensive care unit. A 68-year-old man with ankylosing spondylitis became quadriplegic after emergent intubation. A new C6-7 fracturedislocation was identified, and the patient underwent emergent open reduction and C4-T2 posterior fixation and fusion. The patient remained quadriplegic and ultimately died of pneumonia 1 year later. This is the

[Analysis of the sonographic patterns in Traumatic Patellar Dislocation].

UNLABELLED: The diagnosis of osteochondral fractures and medial patellar retinaculum injuries that originate as a result of Traumatic Patellar Dislocation (TPD) appears to be crucial for establishing the treatment strategy. Those injuries may be efficiently recognized by means of ultrasonography (USG). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The analysis of the USG patterns in 22 knees after TPD in 21 patients treated between 2004 and 2007 was proceeded. In all children knee USG examination followed its clinical examination and X ray imaging. The standard USG knee assessment was supplemented by patellar articu

Value of Early Postoperative Computed Tomography Assessment in Ankle Fractures Defining Joint Congruity and Criticizing the Need for Early Revision Surgery.

Previous investigators have questioned the reliability of plain radiographs in assessing the accuracy of ankle fracture reduction when these were compared with the computed tomography (CT) evaluation in the preoperative setting, in particular, in fractures with syndesmosis injuries or trimalleolar fragments. The role of CT assessment, however, has not been investigated in the early postoperative setting. In the early postoperative setting, reduction still relies most commonly on fluoroscopy and plain radiographs alone. In the present study, we hypothesized that early postoperative CT assessmen

Complete open dislocation of the navicular: a case report.

Complete dislocation of the navicular is rare, and open dislocation even more so. We report a case of a 85-year-old female patient who experienced complete open dislocation of navicular, successfully treated by open reduction and arthrodesis of the naviculocuneiform and calcaneocuboid joints. At 2 years after treatment, the patient was symptom free and had nearly normal foot function.

Incidence, treatment, and outcomes of modern dual-mobility intraprosthetic dissociations.

AIMS: Dual-mobility (DM) components are increasingly used to prevent and treat dislocation after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Intraprosthetic dissociation (IPD) is a rare complication of DM that is believed to have decreased with contemporary implants. This study aimed to report incidence, treatment, and outcomes of contemporary DM IPD. METHODS: A total of 1,453 DM components were implanted at a single academic institution between January 2010 and December 2021: 695 in primary and 758 in revision THA. Of these, 49 presented with a dislocation of the large DM head and five presented with an I

Managing acute acromioclavicular joint dislocation during COVID 19 pandemic by minimally invasive technique with suture anchor and miniplate: A pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocation is common in sportsmen and physically active population. Its management depends upon the grade of injury and functional demands of the patient. A variety of surgical procedures have been described with different limitations and advantages. The present study has assessed the clinical and radiological outcome of acute AC joint dislocation managed with a 3.5 mm Titanium suture anchor and 2 mm miniplate construct which requires lesser dissection, surgical time and thus contact with the patient as mandated by COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: We enrol

A Short Time Period in the Treatment of an Open Apice Intruded Tooth: An 8-year Follow-up.

AIM: Among traumatic dental injuries, intrusive dislocation is considered to be one of the most serious injuries. Despite the high success rate in complacent patients, the traditional technique of calcium hydroxide inoculation has drawbacks. The good antimicrobial and sealing properties combined with excellent biocompatibility and high success rates of the mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) encourage its use. BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to report a successful case of intrusive dislocation in a short time with a follow-up of eight years. CASE DESCRIPTION: A patient, seven years

Innovative Management of Double Segmental Femur Fracture without Fracture Table: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Fractures of the proximal humerus are the second most common upper extremity fracture and the third most common fracture, after hip and distal radial fractures. The fractures can occur at any age, but the incidence rapidly increases with age. Common complications following non-operative management of proximal humeral are pain, stiffness, and loss of function. The following study was conducted to evaluate the functional and radiological outcome of displaced proximal humeral fractures treated with the proximal humerus internal locking osteosynthesis system (PHILOS). An Isolated Greater Tuberosity Fracture With Posterior-Superior Displacement in an Elderly Patient: Successful Fixation Using Cannulated Screws With Washers Without Rotator Cuff Repair.

Isolated fractures of the greater tuberosity are uncommon, comprising a minority of proximal humerus fractures. Their management depends primarily on the degree and direction of displacement. Posterior-superior displacement, in particular, is associated with subacromial impingement and compromised rotator cuff function, often necessitating surgical intervention. This case report aims to present the management of an isolated greater tuberosity fracture with posterior-superior displacement in an elderly patient, emphasizing successful fixation with interfragmentary screws, without rotator cuff r

Cemented Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty with a Wiring Technique for Unstable Intertrochanteric Hip Fractures in Elderly Patients.

PURPOSE: Intertrochanteric hip fractures are commonly seen in the elderly population. Osteosynthesis is technically demanding and has a high rate of failure, especially in osteoporotic bones. Furthermore, delayed ambulation after surgery can be a risk factor for systemic complications. Active prevention of prolonged bed-ridden can improve the quality of life postoperatively. For early ambulation, the authors chose hemiarthroplasty as the surgical method. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of cemented bipolar hemiarthroplasty with a wiring technique for unstable intertrochante
