TikTok for HIV prevention among Filipino youth: A behavioral economics approach.

This correspondence responds to Guss et al.'s study on using behavioral economics and TikTok for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) education among youth. It expands the discourse to the Philippine context, where limited health literacy and rising HIV cases remain pressing concerns. With over 62 million TikTok users, the Philippines presents a critical opportunity to promote PrEP through gain-framed, authentic messaging. The commentary highlights the potential of social media as a tool for health education and calls for culturally relevant, youth-centered strategies to strengthen HIV preventi

Health Status of Lewy Body Dementia Caregivers Predicts Psychological Response to Peer Mentoring Intervention.

Individuals with Lewy body dementia (LBD) rely on family caregivers. Caregiving demands limit caregivers' ability to attend to their own health needs, increasing their vulnerability to the psychological effects of caregiving. We previously piloted a peer mentoring intervention with experienced (mentor) and less experienced (mentee) LBD caregivers. Matched mentor-mentee dyads spoke weekly for 16 weeks, guided by an intervention handbook. LBD knowledge and attitudes towards dementia improved post-intervention. We hypothesized that caregiver health status moderates response to peer mentoring. Pos

"We don't care because we are not sick": understanding youths perceptions of hypertension in urban South Africa.

BACKGROUND: The growing burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is largely driven by hypertension, with risk factors including poor diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use, psychological stress, and limited healthcare access. Early-life exposure to these risks contributes to adverse biological markers that increase hypertension susceptibility in adulthood. This study aimed to explore how young people in Soweto, Johannesburg, perceive hypertension risk, using the Health Belief Model (HBM) to understand their beliefs, attitudes, and barriers to prevention. METHODS: This

Identification of Opioid Medications Among Persons With Opioid Use Disorder and Chronic Pain.

BACKGROUND: Persons with both opioid use disorder (OUD) and chronic pain face mental health challenges, poor substance use prognosis, and compromised quality of life. One way to improve outcomes in this vulnerable patient population is to enhance health literacy, particularly literacy regarding opioid medications. A fundamental metric of such literacy is whether persons with OUD can correctly identify medications, including those prescribed for OUD, as opioids. This question has yet to be researched extensively. METHODS: Participants were 163 adults with OUD and chronic pain receiving bupreno

Knowledge and acceptability of male HPV vaccination among young people and community stakeholders in northwest Tanzania: social sciences in the Add-Vacc trial.

INTRODUCTION: Human papillomavirus (HPV) and related diseases are global health concerns affecting both males and females. Tanzania introduced two-dose HPV vaccination for 14-year old girls in 2018. The Add-Vacc trial in rural northwest Tanzania is evaluating the impact of adding one-time, single-dose HPV vaccination for 14-18-year-old boys to the national programme for girls on HPV population prevalence. As this is the first time HPV vaccination has been offered to adolescent males in Tanzania, acceptability of boys' HPV vaccination among adolescents and community stakeholders was assessed.
