The Rocker Technique for Atlantoaxial Dislocation With or Without Basilar Invagination: A Prospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Atlantoaxial dislocation (AAD) poses a complex surgical challenge. Surgical approaches vary for reducible and irreducible cases. Challenges persist in reducing the atlantodental interval, especially in cases with oblique or vertical C1-C2 joints. The Rocker instrument (MJ Surgical), a less-explored technique, seeks to simplify instrumentation, reduce complexity, and enhance translation and retroflection reduction of AAD. METHODS: This prospective observational study was conducted from January 2022 to July 2023 at a tertiary neurosurgical center. Inclusion criteria c

Mobile phone use and brain tumour risk - COSMOS, a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Each new generation of mobile phone technology has triggered discussions about potential carcinogenicity from exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF). Available evidence has been insufficient to conclude about long-term and heavy mobile phone use, limited by differential recall and selection bias, or crude exposure assessment. The Cohort Study on Mobile Phones and Health (COSMOS) was specifically designed to overcome these shortcomings. METHODS: We recruited participants in Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the UK 2007-2012. The baseline questionnai

Development of deep pelvic endometriosis following acute haemoperitoneum: a prospective ultrasound study.

STUDY QUESTION: Is acute haemoperitoneum that is managed conservatively a precursor of deep endometriosis? SUMMARY ANSWER: Our study provides evidence to suggest that acute haemoperitoneum may lead to the development of deep endometriosis in a significant proportion of cases. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: A recent pilot study was the first to suggest that acute haemoperitoneum could be a precursor of deep endometriosis. However, the sample size was small, and the follow-up was not standardized owing to unknown rates of clot absorption and development of endometriosis. STUDY DESIGN SIZE DURATION: T
