Use of autogenous tooth bone graft in osseous defects after the surgical removal of mandibular third molars: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to collectively summarize the available evidence on the use of autogenous tooth bone graft (ATBG) in osseous defects following mandibular third molar surgery. A literature search was performed in Scopus, MEDLINE/PubMed, and Cochrane Library to find randomized clinical trials that used ATBG to augment bone defects following impacted mandibular third molar surgery and compared this with normal healing or with other materials. Eight studies were included, six of which were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed that sites gr

Calorie (energy) labelling for changing selection and consumption of food or alcohol.

BACKGROUND: Overconsumption of food and consumption of any amount of alcohol increases the risk of non-communicable diseases. Calorie (energy) labelling is advocated as a means to reduce energy intake from food and alcoholic drinks. However, there is continued uncertainty about these potential impacts, with a 2018 Cochrane review identifying only a small body of low-certainty evidence. This review updates and extends the 2018 Cochrane review to provide a timely reassessment of evidence for the effects of calorie labelling on people's selection and consumption of food or alcoholic drinks. Evaluating safety and efficacy of plastic versus metal stenting in malignant hilar biliary obstruction: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Stenting malignant hilar biliary obstruction (MHBO) is challenging due to its complex structure, and it is less effective than blockages in the distal bile duct area. Plastic stents (PSs) and metal stents (MSs) are commonly used for stenting MHBO. This study aims to compare the outcomes of PSs and MSs in MHBO patients. METHODS: We conducted a search of medical databases up to March 2024. Using a fixed-effect model, we analyzed the risk ratios (RRs) of the outcomes between the PS and MS groups. We calculated the RR for clinical and technical success, reinterventions, and adverse ev

Ethics and informed consent in clinical trial integrity: An international, multi-stakeholder consensus statement by Cairo Consensus Group.

Recent studies have revealed issues with ethical practice and informed consent in randomized clinical trials (RCTs). We aimed to develop an international, multi-stakeholder consensus statement on human research ethics committee approval and informed participant consent for RCTs. The consensus process encompassed a systematic scoping review, modified two-round Delphi survey, and final consensus meeting of a multi-stakeholder group, including trialists, ethics committee members, methodologists, patient representatives, journal editors, and other experts on RCTs. Delphi consensus deployed the Ave

A randomization strategy for a cluster-randomized controlled trial with variable operating room availability.

A single-center, open-label, pragmatic, non-inferiority, cluster randomized controlled trial was conducted to compare the clinical outcomes of two diagnostic bronchoscopy approaches, Platform A and Platform B. A cluster was defined as an operating room (OR) day. The expected allocation ratio at the cluster level was 1:1 between Platform A and Platform B. The resources available for this trial included one Platform A, one Platform B, two ORs available for two days a week, and one OR available for the other three days. When one platform was randomly assigned to one OR, the other platform was pla

Efficacy of acupuncture-based adjunctive therapies in alleviating spasticity and motor function in patients with post-stroke spasticity: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Post-stroke spasticity (PSS) is a prominent complication that severely hinders limb function recovery and diminishes quality of life in patients with stroke. Despite the widespread use of acupuncture-based adjunctive therapies, their efficacy in reducing spasticity severity, improving limb motor function, and enhancing quality of life among stroke survivors remains contentious. Therefore, a comprehensive synthesis of current evidence through evidence-based medical methodologies is essential to elucidate their clinical value. Meta-core outcome set for randomized trials and clinical practice for curative surgical oncology: patient and healthcare consensus statement.

BACKGROUND: The development and use of core outcome sets (COSs) have the potential to inform best practice in healthcare treatment options by facilitating data synthesis across studies. In surgical oncology, eight cancer-specific COSs exist, and these overlap in content. The development of a meta-COS that includes the core outcomes from existing cancer data sets would be applicable, as a minimum, across all cancer types in surgical oncology for use in effectiveness trials and clinical practice. METHODS: The process of developing a meta-COS included identification of the existing COS and their
