Generalized Anxiety disorder (GAD) is a widespread psychiatric syndrome involving significant consequences on people's health. However, recent data show that this disorder has received little attention when compared to other anxiety disorders. A review of the publication on GAD also stated that the majority of research has been conducted on descriptive issues, whereas etiological factors received lower rates of publication. This may be explained by the fact that changes in the conceptualization of GAD slowed down the progression of researches focussing on the identification of factors implicat

Chronic infection by Echinococcus granulosus leads to the establishment of fluid-filled cysts (hydatid cysts) in the liver or lungs of infected hosts, which can escape destruction by the host immune system for long periods. Ag5 is abundantly expressed in the cyst fluid of the fine-grained E. granulosus and plays an important role in immune tolerance in cystic echinococcosis. However, the role that Ag5 plays in monocytes is not fully known. Here, the expression characteristics and function of Ag5 were explored in human monocytic THP-1 cells by various assays. The findings of the present study r

Preeclampsia (PE) is a serious pregnancy complication, and its primary clinical manifestations are gestational hypertension and proteinuria. Trophoblasts are responsible for the basic functions of the placenta during placental development; recent studies have revealed that placental "shallow implantation" caused by the decreased invasiveness of placental trophoblasts plays a crucial role in PE pathogenesis. The interaction between the cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM) plays a crucial role in trophoblast proliferation, differentiation, and invasion. Abnormal ECM function can result in in

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has high morbidity, mortality and disability. Cell death runs through its occurrence and development. Necroptosis is a recently discovered mode of cell death. Its mechanism still has not been fully resolved. Studies which researcher published before showed that: pramipexole could play a neuroprotective role by inducing hypothermia; receptor interacting protein 1 (RIP1) could play a neuroprotective role by regulating necroptosis. On this basis, we carried out the experiments and it was observed that we could establish a hypothermia model of SD rats safely and effect

Neurodegenerative diseases are considered a serious life-threatening issue regardless of age. Resulting nerve damage progressively affects important activities, such as movement, coordination, balance, breathing, speech and the functioning of vital organs. Reports on the subject have concluded that neurodegenerative disease can be caused by mutations of susceptible genes, alcohol consumption, toxins, chemicals and other unknown environmental factors. Although several diagnostic techniques can be used to determine aetiologies, the process is difficult and often fails. Research shows that nasoph

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) was one of the first cytokines to be discovered, over 40 years ago. Since that time a burgeoning interest has developed in the role that MIF plays in both the regulation of normal physiology and the response to pathology. MIF is a pleotropic cytokine that functions to promote inflammation, drive cellular proliferation, inhibit apoptosis and regulate the migration and activation state of immune cells. These functions are particularly relevant for the development of cancer and it is notable that various solid tumours over express MIF. This includes tu

Blastocyst implantation, placental development, and fetal growth are all dependent on the interactions between the developing placenta and the decidualized endometrium. Adult stem cell populations resident in both the placenta and endometrium play key roles in directing cell fate and tissue organization throughout pregnancy. As we begin to understand how these stem cell populations contribute to successful pregnancies, we can begin to ask what roles they play in the pathogenesis of pregnancy disorders from implantation failure and miscarriage through fetal growth restriction and preeclampsia.

BACKGROUND: Elastin microfibril interface located protein 2 (EMILIN2) is an extracellular glycoprotein associated with cardiovascular development. While other EMILIN proteins are reported to play a role in elastogenesis and coagulation, little is known about EMILIN2 function in the cardiovascular system. The objective of this study was to determine whether EMILIN2 could play a role in thrombosis.
RESULTS: EMILIN2 mRNA was expressed in 8 wk old C57BL/6J mice in lung, heart, aorta and bone marrow, with the highest expression in bone marrow. In mouse cells, EMILIN2 mRNA expression in macrophages

The vertebrate intestine is a complex and highly specialized organ comprising tissues derived from all three germ layers. While a description of the morphological events underlying the consolidation and organization of the endoderm, mesoderm, and ectoderm-derived cells into a multi-layered, continuously renewing organ has been available for several decades, only recently has a strong genetic framework for this process started to emerge, and as yet it remains incomplete. This review highlights the roles played by a number of transcription factors and signaling pathways in the development of the

Neuroinflammation is characterized by dysregulated inflammatory responses localized within the brain and spinal cord. Neuroinflammation plays a pivotal role in the onset of several neurodegenerative disorders and is considered a typical feature of these disorders. Microglia perform primary immune surveillance and macrophage-like activities within the central nervous system. Activated microglia are predominant players in the central nervous system response to damage related to stroke, trauma, and infection. Moreover, microglial activation per se leads to a proinflammatory response and oxidative

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the U.S. and worldwide. Sex-related disparities have been identified in the presentation and incidence rate of CVD. Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a role in both the etiology and pathology of CVD. Recent work has suggested that the sex hormones play a role in regulating mitochondrial dynamics, metabolism, and cross talk with other organelles. Specifically, the female sex hormone, estrogen, has both a direct and an indirect role in regulating mitochondrial biogenesis via PGC-1α, dynamics through Opa1, Mfn1, Mfn2, and Drp1, as well a

The cervical anterior spinal artery (ASA) is a very important artery arising from the intracranial vertebral artery (VA). It can play different roles in endovascular treatment (EVT) of spinal vascular diseases. The current understanding of these roles is incomplete; therefore, we performed this review. We found that cervical ASA can be involved in many spinal vascular diseases, such as arteriovenous fistula (AVF), arteriovenous malformation (AVM), and aneurysm, and can serve as a collateral channel in proximal VA occlusion. In AVF and AVM, when the cervical ASA is involved, it often plays the

Corticosterone, one of the glucocorticoids, is toxic to neurons and plays an important role in depressive-like behavior and depression. We previously showed that hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a novel physiological mediator, plays an inhibitory role in depression. However, the mechanism underlying H2S-triggered antidepressant-like role is not clearly known. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neurotrophic factor, plays a neuroprotective role that is mediated by its high-affinity tropomysin-related kinase B (TrkB) receptor. In this study, to investigate the underlying mechanism of H2S-induced

Epidemiological and experimental studies have demonstrated a bidirectional relationship between mood disorders and the circadian system, with disrupted circadian rhythms contributing to depressive states, and their restoration playing a key role in antidepressants effects. In this context, we sought to examine whether selected molecular pathways implicated in antidepressant responses exhibit diurnal regulatory patterns. Naïve adult male and female C57BL/6 mice were euthanized at 3-hour intervals beginning at Zeitgeber Time 0 (ZT0), and hippocampal (HC) and medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) tissu

Aortic valve diseases are among the most common structural heart diseases in adults. Aortic stenosis (AS), in particular, poses a growing challenge due to demographic trends, as it continues to be underdiagnosed. The current 2025 ESC/EACTS guidelines mark a paradigm shift: for the first time, early intervention is recommended for selected asymptomatic patients. At the same time, various AI tools support early patient screening. Also new, with a Class IIb recommendation, is that TAVI may be considered for patients with a bicuspid aortic valve and increased surgical risk, provided the anatomy is s

Breast cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, with epigenetic mechanisms like N6 methyladenosine (m6A) modification playing a crucial role in tumorigenesis. The interaction between microRNAs and m6A regulators, such as the methyltransferase METTL14, is increasingly recognized as a key pathway in oncogenesis. This study investigated whether miR-30c-2-3p regulates METTL14 expression to influence global m6A levels and cell migration in breast epithelial (MCF12A) and breast cancer (MCF7) cell lines. Following transfection with miR-30c-2-3p mimics, successful overexpr

Breast cancer (BC) is considered a highly prevalent cancer among women, with estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) playing a pivotal role in tumor growth and development. Even with existing medications such as tamoxifen, the rising resistance underscores the vital demand for novel ER-positive inhibitors. The present work focuses on identifying a thiazine derivative targeting ERα via pharmacophore model-based drug design. A ligand database of 62 bioactive thiazine derivatives in the MCF-7 cell line was generated and validated using the pharmacophore model (AHRRR_1). An additional 95,296 thiazine deriva

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a fatal malignancy characterized by an immunosuppressive tumor environment. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) have gained recognition in playing a critical role in cancer progression and formulation of the PDAC TME, making them a target for novel PDAC therapies. Herein, we utilize a Lactococcus strain expressing group A streptococcal collagen-like protein 1 (Scl1) to stimulate anti-tumor immunity and inhibit cancer promoting NETs. Orthotopically implanted male and female C57BL6/J or NET-deficient PAD4−/− mice were intra-tumorally or intra-peritone
