Symptom dimensions in obsessive-compulsive disorder: factor analysis on a clinician-rated scale and a self-report measure.

Although obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is regarded as a unitary nosological entity, it encompasses a rich variety of heterogeneous mental and behavioural phenomena. The identification of clinical subtypes within this broad concept has been a focus of attention in recent years. In the present study, we administered a clinician-rated scale, the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) with the Y-BOCS Symptom Checklist (Y-BOCS CL), as well as a self-report questionnaire, the Padua Inventory revised (PI-R), to 150 outpatients with OCD. A principal component analysis on the Y-BOCS CL, a

The thyroid hormone receptor functions as a ligand-operated developmental switch between proliferation and differentiation of erythroid progenitors.

The avian erythroblastosis virus (AEV) oncoprotein v-ErbA represents a mutated, oncogenic thyroid hormone receptor alpha (c-ErbA/ TRalpha). v-ErbA cooperates with the stem cell factor-activated, endogenous receptor tyrosine kinase c-Kit to induce self-renewal and to arrest differentiation of primary avian erythroblasts, the AEV transformation target cells. In this cooperation, v-ErbA substitutes for endogenous steroid hormone receptor function required for sustained proliferation of non-transformed erythroid progenitors. In this paper, we propose a novel concept of how v-ErbA transforms erythr

Prevalence and risk factors of food insecurity during pregnancy: a multicenter survey in French Guiana.

BACKGROUND: The post-COVID international situation, wars and food price inflation are hampering access to food for the most vulnerable households who have no safety net against unforeseen events. While pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to food shortages and nutritional imbalances, data on food insecurity during pregnancy and associated risk factors are scarce. METHODS: A 2023 multicenter, cross-sectional study was conducted among a representative sample of 730 women during the third trimester of pregnancy in French Guiana. Food insecurity (USDA Food Security Survey Module), diet qual

Parents' anxiety and depression symptoms after successful infertility treatment and spontaneous conception: does singleton/twin pregnancy matter?

STUDY QUESTION: Does mode of conception [spontaneous/after infertility treatment (IT)], type of pregnancy (singleton/twin) and parent gender have an effect on anxiety and depression levels and trajectories during pregnancy and the post-partum period? SUMMARY ANSWER: Conception after IT was associated with a transitory increase in anxiety during the perinatal period for parents of singletons, while for IT parents of twins higher levels of psychopathological symptoms tended to persist during pregnancy and the post-partum period. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Most previous studies have shown that succ

Testing a Smartphone-Based Intervention Targeting Anxiety Sensitivity Among Women Presenting for Emergency Care After Sexual Assault: Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety sensitivity (AS), defined as the fear of anxious arousal, is a promising therapeutic target for reducing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom development after trauma exposure. Initial research suggests that smartphone-based AS interventions may be acceptable to sexual assault survivors at risk for PTSD symptoms and effective for symptom reduction, but only small one-arm proof-of-concept studies have been conducted. OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study was to extend prior proof-of-concept work by conducting a pilot randomized controlled trial. The aims were to evaluat

De-escalation of aggressive behaviour in healthcare settings: Concept analysis.

BACKGROUND: De-escalation is the recommended first-line response to potential violence and aggression in healthcare settings. Related scholarly activity has increased exponentially since the 1980s, but there is scant research about its efficacy and no guidance on what constitutes the gold standard for practice. OBJECTIVES: To clarify the concept of de-escalation of violence and aggression as described within the healthcare literature. DESIGN: Concept analysis guided by Rodgers' evolutionary approach. DATA SOURCES: Multiple nursing and healthcare databases were searched using relevant terms.

Development of a human-artificial intelligence collaboration-based storybook series for understanding epilepsy and supporting self-management.

Epilepsy is a chronic condition that requires ongoing self-management, including medication adherence, trigger control, lifestyle regulation, and psychosocial coping. Patient education improves treatment adherence and quality of life; however, current educational materials are often text-heavy, time-consuming to produce, and limited in addressing emotional and cognitive learning needs. This study aimed to develop and expert-validate a human-AI collaborative multimodal storybook series with the potential to support epilepsy education and strengthen self-management competencies. Nine AI-assisted

Preventing Excessive Gestational Weight Gain During Consecutive Pregnancies: Findings from an mHealth Intervention.

INTRODUCTION: Excessive gestational weight gain (EGWG) poses significant health risks, including increased pregnancy complications, obesity, and metabolic disorders. Addressing EGWG is critical for women with a history of EGWG, as recurrence is common in consecutive pregnancies. This study presents findings from a subanalysis of the intervention arm of the INTER-ACT multi-center randomied controlled trial (RCT), which evaluated the impact of a combined mobile health (mHealth) and face-to-face lifestyle coaching intervention on EGWG recurrence during consecutive pregnancies. METHODS: This suban

Decoding neuronal criticality firing patterns for large brain based EEG models.

The critical brain hypothesis suggests that the brain operates near critical points, balancing order and disorder for optimal processing via self-organized neural firing patterns. However, important gaps remain in understanding criticality in human in vivo brain dynamics using electroencephalography (EEG), particularly in translating these systems neuroscience concepts to operational applications (e.g., cognitive state detection, human-machine teaming). We address three key aspects that yet remain to be demonstrated: (1) how to decode large-scale EEG neural recordings coordination and self-org

A novel method to quantify individual limb contributions to standing postural control.

BACKGROUND: Understanding individual limb contributions to standing postural control is valuable when evaluating populations with asymmetric function (e.g., stroke, amputations). We propose a method of quantifying three contributions to controlling the net anteroposterior center of pressure (CoP) during quiet standing: CoP moving under left and right limbs and weight shifting between the two limbs. RESEARCH QUESTION: Can these contributions to standing postural control be quantified from CoP trajectories in neurotypical adults? METHODS: Instantaneous contributions can be negative or larger t

Prehospital assessment of patients with abdominal pain triaged to self-care at home: an observation study.

BACKGROUND: Patients who call for emergency medical services (EMS) due to abdominal pain suffer from a broad spectrum of diseases, some of which are time sensitive. As a result of the introduction of the concept of 'optimal level of care', some patients with abdominal pain are triaged to other levels of care than in an emergency department (ED). We hypothesised that it could be challenging in a patient safety perspective. AIM: This study aims to describe consecutive patients who call for EMS due to abdominal pain and are triaged to self-care by EMS clinicians. METHODS: This was an observatio
