OBJECTIVE: Although spoken language plays a crucial role in psychotherapy with clients whose native language differs from the language of therapy, research on mental health practitioners' language proficiency remains scarce. Our study explored predictors of MHP's self-reported competence in cross-lingual practice.
METHOD: Four hundred and fourteen MHP's working in Australia, completed an online survey measuring key features of cross-lingual competence (self-perceptions, knowledge of client difficulties, barriers imposed by language), as well as engagement in multicultural training, experience

INTRODUCTION: Previous research investigated prognostic factors for survival in prevalent cases of chronic spinal cord injury (CSCI) based on self reported information. However, most of these studies originated in the US and relied on cohorts drawn from individual hospitals or hospital networks. This population-based cohort study aims to identify prognostic factors affecting survival within the Swiss Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) community, emphasizing self-reported data on functional independence (FI), secondary health conditions (SHC), comorbidities, and emotional well-being.

BACKGROUND: Advice about a 'soft diet' may be useful in the short-term alleviation of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) but may contradict the long-term aims of multi-dimensional approaches if a poor nutritional state is caused or exacerbated. The changes patients with TMD make to their diet, because of their condition or its management, have not previously been explored.
OBJECTIVES: To explore the relationship and trends between TMD, TMD interventions and diet using self-report measures.
METHODS: Registrants of the Temporomandibular Joint Association (TMJA) were invited to participate. Afte

Clean intermittent self-catheterization is an established option in bladder management of spinal cord injury patients. Several early and a small number of long-term studies have reported good preventive or therapeutic effects on hydronephrosis, vesicourethral reflux, urinary tract infection and incontinence. Most reports describe the use of small catheters and liberal use of jelly but urethral complications, such as strictures and false passages, seem to increase with the length of followup. All 30 spinal cord injury patients in this retrospective study had used disposable hydrophilic, low fri

BACKGROUND: Burns among prisoners are complex to manage. Barriers to timely first aid and specialist care may contribute to worse outcomes, yet data on this population remain limited. This study characterized the epidemiology, injury patterns, first aid provision and follow-up engagement of prisoners with burns, to inform improvements to service provision.
METHODS: We conducted a 10-year retrospective cohort study of all prisoners treated for burn injuries at a UK regional burns unit between March 2015 and April 2025. Data were extracted from medical records, including demographics, injury ch

Background and Objectives: Adolescence is a critical period of physical and mental development, yet allergic diseases are often poorly managed. Factors such as sleep deprivation, obesity, smoking, and mental stress can worsen allergic conditions and complicate treatment. This study examines the environmental, behavioral, and psychosocial factors influencing allergic diseases in Korean adolescents using data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHNES). Materials and Methods: From the 25,534 participants in the Fifth KNHNES, 1630 adolescents (aged 13-18 years) were

OBJECTIVE: People with Bulimia Nervosa (BN) self-report difficulties processing and regulating emotions. However, self-reports have been shown to be biased, particularly with people with BN who have difficulties describing their emotions. Self-reports also cannot easily disentangle between early processing and later regulatory stages, so it is not clear whether people with BN really do process their emotions more intensely or whether this is due to the aftermath of regulatory difficulties. This study aimed to use an objective way to measure (1) whether people with BN process their emotions wit

Breast cancer (BC) patients experience multiple symptoms as a result of diagnosis and treatment. While surveillance for detecting cancer recurrence is fundamental to follow-up care, managing symptoms, and promoting health behaviors are equally important. UCSF has implemented a secure online health questionnaire enabling BC patients to provide updates of their health history and symptoms. We randomly selected a sample of stage I-III BC patients (n = 106) who completed a questionnaire before a medical oncology visit between August 2010 and January 2011 and consented to have data used for researc

INTRODUCTION: Self-regulation enables students to effectively apply their metacognitive abilities to reach academic objectives and enhance their well-being, which is essential in academic high-pressure situations such as medical education. However, many medical students have difficulty managing their cognitive and emotional responses to continued academic pressure and the clinical demands placed upon them. Thus, it is important to identify methods that may support the self-regulatory abilities of medical students.
