Fiberoptic colonoscopy was performed on 15 patients between the ages of 1 1/2 years and 16 years. Ten patients were hospitalized and five were outpatients. Of 12 with frank or microscopic blood in stools, fiberoptic colonoscopy revealed single polyps in six patients, ulcerative colitis in two and negative results in four with prior nondiagnostic radiographic studies, colonoscopy revealed ulcerative colitis in one, granulomatous colitis in one and negative findings in one. RATIONALE: Cronkhite-Canada Syndrome (CCS) is an idiopathic, nonhereditary syndrome haracterized by gastrointestinal (GI) polyposis and ectodermal changes including alopecia, onychatrophia, and pigmentation. CCS colon polyps were previously considered to be benign neoplasms. However, serrated adenoma was reported to be associated with malignant neoplasms in some cases of gastric and colorectal carcinomas, and esophageal cancers. BACKGROUND: Synchronous peritoneal metastasis of colorectal cancer usually predicts a bleak prognosis. Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) and cytoreductive surgery (CRS) have brought a glimmer of hope to the treatment of peritoneal cancer. Few cases treated with lobaplatin have been reported in the literature and the regimen is controversial. In this case, the comprehensive treatment scheme of lobaplatin-based HIPEC plus CRS and rechallenge using cetuximab plus systemic chemotherapy is effective, especially for the patients with left colon cancer (wild-type RAS).
