Mechanical thrombectomy for cervical artery dissection-related stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is a well-established treatment for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to large vessel occlusion (LVO). However, its role in cervical artery dissection-related (CeAD) LVO remains debated due to anatomical complexities and procedural challenges. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and clinical outcomes of MT in patients with AIS due to CeAD-related LVO compared with other AIS etiologies. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and Scopus were systematically searched from inception to March 2025. Comparative observational studie

Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty Prior to Self-Expanding TAVI: The BAVSE-TAVI Registry.

BACKGROUND: Direct transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) approach is feasible and safe compared to predilatation-TAVI. Certain clinical and computerized tomography (CT)-based characteristics might indicate the need for balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) before TAVI, especially with self-expanding valves. AIMS: We aimed to identify patients who require predilatation before TAVI. METHODS AND RESULTS: We performed a retrospective, single-center study between 2020 and 2024, enrolling 315 patients (predilatation = 158 vs. direct = 157) aged 81 ± 6 years, 43.5% male, with EuroSCORE II of

Respiratory failure, underlying acute illnesses, and hospital outcomes: the S. Giovanni-Addolorata-SIGOT GRACE Study.

Although respiratory failure (RF) is frequent among older medical patients admitted to non-intensive hospital units, inherent data are scarce. We determined whether RF predicted adverse hospital outcomes independently of its causative illnesses. In a retrospective observational study from the Geriatric Risk Assessment and Care Evaluation database, we included 1093 patients consecutively admitted to a geriatric hospital unit (2022-2024). Study outcomes included hospital death, length of hospital stay (LOS) and post-discharge institutionalization (discharge to nursing homes or other long-term fa
