OBJECTIVE: To review the effects of hydrosalpinx on IVF/ET and the role of salpingectomy.
DESIGN: The literature on hydrosalpinx, IVF/ET, embryotoxicity, and salpingectomy for hydrosalpinx was identified through MEDLINE searches and reviewed.
RESULT(S): Hydrosalpinx has been associated with poor fertility prognosis. IVF/ET is a better alternative to tubal surgery for those patients with severe distal tubal disease, and it is also more cost effective. OBJECTIVE: To define the clinical presentation and follow-up of women found to have endosalpingiosis.
METHODS: Subjects included for retrospective study were identified as having had a pathologic diagnosis of endosalpingiosis. We had observed trapping of sperm by mucus produced by explants of bovine oviductal epithelium in vitro; therefore, we used techniques designed for preserving mucus and luminal dimensions to determine whether mucus is associated with the reservoir in vivo. Cloacal dysgenesis is frequently associated with uterine anomalies. We report a case of pregnancy which resulted in an abortion in a woman with a persistent cloaca. Presumptive diagnosis before operation was ectopic pregnancy of the left tube. Postoperatively, the site of implantation of the conceptus was found to be the cavity of a unicornuate uterus in association with a rudimentary horn, the presence of which misled us to diagnose an ectopic pregnancy.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a short GnRH agonist (GnRH-a) protocol on follicular and luteal characteristics and treatment outcome in women undergoing IVF for isolated pure tubal occlusion.
DESIGN: A prospective randomized study.

Edwardsiella tarda infections are uncommon and have often been reported in association with pet reptiles. The majority of these infections occur as gastrointestinal disorders in immunocompromised hosts. We believe this to be the first reported American case of tuboovarian abscess caused by this organism in an otherwise healthy woman whose only known exposure was to raw seafood. This patient had fever and lower abdominal pain caused by a severe Edwardsiella tarda pelvic abscess that required surgical drainage and intravenous antibiotics for complete recovery.

A total of 20 cases of heterotopic pregnancy were encountered among 2650 clinical pregnancies (0.75%) resulting from in-vitro fertilization/embryo transfer at Bourn Hall Clinic (Cambridge, UK) during the period July 1984-July 1993. The incidence of chlamydial infection in women with tuboperitoneal sterility is 49.5%. Clinically inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs in such an infection are characterized by a primary chronic course with frequent recurrences and involvement of the cervix uteri, urethra, internal genitals, with moderately manifest clinical symptoms. Therapy of chlamydial infection should be combined with individual selection of therapeutic measures with due consideration for the inflammatory process phase and site, for the type of pathologic changes, general and immune status.

To evaluate the cicatrization of the uterine horn after the recanalization by endoluminal laser probe, 50 white female rats of Wistar's race have been separated into two groups.
