A flexible hierarchical Bayesian spatiotemporal regression model for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) was applied to data on the annual number of reported FMD cases in Turkey from 1996 to 2003. The longitudinal component of the model was specified as a latent province-specific stochastic process. This stochastic process can accommodate various types of FMD temporal profiles. The treatment of congenital club foot implies orthopaedic and operative methods. The complications of the treatment may result, in particular cases, from lack of follow-up and cooperation between the child parents and the doctor. These cases are a challenge for the orthopaedic surgeon, requiring multiple interventions and with a high morbidity. We present the case of a congenital club foot with profound necrosis secondary to a cast compression, which was not recognized by the parents.

Distally-based sural artery flaps are used to cover soft tissue defects of the lower leg, ankle, and heel. These flaps are vascularized by septocutaneous perforators of the peroneal artery that anastomose with the perineural and perivenous arterial networks of the sural nerve and the lesser saphenous vein, respectively. A retrospective study of seven patients with a distally-based neurofasciocutaneous sural artery flap for ankle or heel defects that had failed conservative treatment was conducted from 1999 to 2003. The presence of a patent peroneal artery was a requirement for this operation.

This study hypothesized that thromboembolism in patients with foot and ankle trauma is higher than currently recognized, and that prophylaxis varies among surgeons. A questionnaire sent to members of two orthopedic specialty societies surveyed the use of thromboembolic prophylaxis over 1 year. Most did not use preoperative prophylaxis. Postoperatively, 44% of surgeons used prophylaxis, most commonly sequential compression devices and low molecular weight heparin. We have undertaken an epidemiological and the treatment modality of diabetic foot in Yaounde Diabetic Center. 5315 patients have included in the study 1275, 23.98% have lesions of the diabetic foot. Neuropathy lesions are more frequent. Gangrenous lesion represent 4.39% with high level of total amputation. Patients are young, with short history of diabetes. Infection is present in 89% of cases. Health education is the only modality to be undertaken to prevent diabetic foot more frequent in our environment.

A 43-year-old man was treated for a traumatic degloving injury to his foot with a transmetatarsal amputation and wound care because of the extensive soft tissue loss.
