Mind-body practices for people living with HIV: a systematic scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Mind-body practices are frequently used by people living with HIV to reduce symptoms and improve wellbeing. These include Tai Chi, Qigong, yoga, meditation, and all types of relaxation. Although there is substantial research on the efficacy of mind-body practices in people living with HIV, there is no summary of the available evidence on these practices. The aim of this scoping review is to map available evidence of mind-body practices in people living with HIV. METHODS: The Arksey and O'Malley (Int J Soc Res Methodol 8:19-32, 2005) methodological framework was used. A search of 1

Physician- and Practice-Level Variation in Clinical Trial Participation Among Patients With Advanced Cancer.

IMPORTANCE: Clinical trial enrollment is essential to advancing cancer care, yet participation among patients with advanced cancer remains low. While patient-level barriers are frequently cited, the role of health care delivery factors-specifically physician- and practice-level variation-has been poorly quantified. OBJECTIVE: To quantify variation in clinical trial participation and identify associated delivery system factors among patients with advanced cancer. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This cohort study included adults with advanced or metastatic cancers diagnosed and treated betw

Distal Radial Artery Access in comparison to Forearm Radial Artery Access for Cardiac Catheterization: A Randomized Controlled Trial (DARFORA Trial).

BACKGROUND: In our clinical practice, conventional radial access has been employed routinely for coronary procedures. The distal radial artery (DRA) access site has recently emerged as a novel technique in cardiac procedures. OBJECTIVES: This study compares distal radial access to standard forearm radial access (FRA) in terms of feasibility, outcomes, and complications. METHOD: This prospective, randomized trial was conducted at a single center. The patients were chosen from An-Najah National University Hospital's catheterization laboratory between December 2019 and November 2020. A total of

A randomized trial of an intervention to improve self-care behaviors of African-American women with type 2 diabetes: impact on physical activity.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether a culturally appropriate clinic- and community-based intervention for African-American women with type 2 diabetes will increase moderate-intensity physical activity (PA). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: In this randomized controlled trial conducted at seven practices in central North Carolina, 200 African-American women, > or =40 years of age with type 2 diabetes, were randomized to one of three treatment conditions: clinic and community (group A), clinic only (group B), or minimal intervention (group C). The clinic-based intervention (groups A and B) consisted of

Exploratory analysis of a Phase I cardiac rehabilitation pathway on anxiety and autonomy in patients undergoing PCI: a narrative nursing and transactional stress-coping perspective.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This exploratory secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial - originally powered for medication adherence - investigated associations of a nurse-led Phase I cardiac rehabilitation pathway, integrated with narrative nursing, with anxiety and autonomy following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). All psychological analyses are exploratory and intended for hypothesis generation, not causal inference. Findings were interpreted within the transactional model of stress and coping, complemented by narrative nursing theory, focusing on how narrative engagement may h

Protocol-Based Implementation of Early Intensive Lipid Management After Acute Coronary Syndrome: The BRIDGE Trial.

BACKGROUND: Although guideline-recommended intensive lipid-lowering therapy (LLT) reduces recurrent cardiovascular events after acute coronary syndrome (ACS), timely implementation of intensive LLT and achievement of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) target remain suboptimal in routine clinical practice. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to determine whether a protocol-based implementation strategy improves timely achievement of guideline-recommended LDL-C target after ACS. METHODS: We conducted a cluster-randomized trial involving patients with ACS. Ten centers were random

[Technologies for maintaining blood flow through the left subclavian artery during thoracic aortic replacement in the Z-2 zone].

BACKGROUND: In modern clinical practice thoracic endovascular aortic repair is the dominant treatment method for patients with diseases of the descending thoracic aorta. In patients with a shorter proximal neck, there is a need to implant the stent graft in Ishimaru zone 2, which involves covering the left subclavian artery. In modern practice, both surgical and endovascular techniques for LSA preservation are available. Objective the aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endovascular aortic repair with coverage of the left subclavian artery using various preservation str

Shedding light on conditions for the successful passive dissemination of recommendations in primary care: a mixed methods study.

BACKGROUND: Passive dissemination of information in healthcare refers to the publication or mailing of newly established guidelines or recommendations. It is one of the least costly knowledge translation activities. This approach is generally considered to be ineffective or to result in only small changes in practice. Recent research, however, suggests that passive dissemination could, under certain conditions, result in modifications of practice, similar to more active dissemination approaches. The objective of our study was to uncover the conditions associated with the change in primary care

Farm-type differences in climate change adaptation intentions.

Agriculture is one of the most sensitive sectors towards climate change. Therefore, farmers are forced to adapt their production to climatic changes. To understand farmers' adaptation behavior, it is important to acknowledge heterogeneity among farmers that affects their management decisions and adjustments to production practices. We conducted a latent class analysis of farmers in southern Germany to identify distinct farmer classes with respect to climate change adaptation intentions. The four identified farmer groups showed varying levels of interest in climate change adaptation. Older farm

Impact of Nurse-Led Digital Education on Perimenopausal Women's Perception and Practices for Osteoporosis Prevention.

INTRODUCTION: Osteoporosis represents a significant public health challenge for perimenopausal women, primarily due to hormonal changes, although awareness remains very low. This highlights the need for effective education interventions. Digital health education, especially those led by nurses, can enhance knowledge and practice through content that is specifically tailored and interactive. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluates the effectiveness of a nurse-led digital education program in enhancing osteoporosis prevention knowledge and practices among perimenopausal women. RESULTS: Using a quasi-e

Cultivating cultural capital and transforming cultural fields: A study with arts and disability organisations in Europe.

This article critically discusses participation by people with disabilities in the arts, drawing on Pierre Bourdieu's concept of cultural capital. It is informed by a qualitative study with representatives of organisations working on arts and disability in 22 European countries. The article highlights that experiences of inequality at various levels, including within education systems, and medicalised understandings of what disability is, continue to hamper arts participation and development of cultural capital by people with disabilities. A Bourdieusian analysis unveils how organisations work

Lhermitte's sign: Review with special emphasis in oncology practice.

Lhermitte's sign (LS) is characterized by electric shock like sensation, spreading along the spine in a cervico-caudal direction and also into both arms and legs, which is felt upon forward flexion of the neck. It is a myelopathy resulting from damage to sensory axons at the dorsal columns of the cervical or thoracic spinal cord and a well-known clinical sign in neurology practice. Patients with cancer may present with LS due to various causes either related to the tumor itself or to its treatment. Spinal cord tumors, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are possible causes of LS observed in oncology

Lateral and central presentation of words with limited exposure duration as remedial training for reading disabled children.

In two studies it is examined whether lateral presentation of words in remedial practice for reading disabled children has additional effects to central presentation. The effect of limited exposure duration (LED) is also studied as a possible factor in inducing higher level decoding processes or increased processing speed of words. Two groups of Dutch reading disabled children (n1 = 25, mean age = 9;8 years and n2 = 36, mean age = 7;1 years) repeatedly practiced reading words presented in the left, right or the central visual field. The results show that all children improved substantially bot

Association Between Locoregional Private Equity Investment in Retina Practices and Academic Vitreoretinal Caseload.

PURPOSE: Private equity (PE) firms acquire stakes in non-publicly traded companies to generate value through operational improvements. PE ownership of US ophthalmic practices has expanded rapidly over the past decade. Despite debate regarding the perceived benefits and drawbacks of PE, limited data exists regarding its impact on patients and practices. In particular, there remains a dearth of literature assessing the impact of PE acquisition on non-PE practices; herein, we assess the effect of locoregional PE investment on the rate of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for retinal detachment (RD) rep

Initial neonatal resuscitation: skill retention after the implementation of the novel 24/7 HybridLab® learning system.

BACKGROUND: Ensuring long-term retention of the acquired practical skills is one of the major aims of a medical school. This depends on the application of training techniques and their combinations. In order to standardize the teaching process, to acquire and maintain a broad array of technical, professional, and interpersonal skills and competencies, and to improve the retention of practical skills, we developed a new training technique - the HybridLab® learning method. It consists of an e-learning platform, hands-on simulation, carefully elaborated learning algorithms (DRAKON), peer-to-peer
