Saccadic eye movements from three patients diagnosed as having Korsakoff's syndrome and one patient who had suffered the acute Wernicke stage of the disorder were examined for changes in saccadic characteristics. The three Korsakoff patients showed increased saccadic latencies; two of the three also had reduced saccadic peak velocities and increased saccadic durations. A higher than expected incidence of hypometric saccades was also found in all four patients; saccadic intrusions were recorded in two Korsakoff patients. These abnormal oculomotor responses were found 2-7 years after the onset o

The existence of facial heimspasm and post-paralytic syncinesia is in general interpreted as the result of aberrant reinnervation following a Bell's palsy. In a certain number of cases, electrophysiological tests reveal synaptic abnormalities in the facial nucleus. These findings must be taken into consideration, together with the possibility of ephapsic stimulation of the proximal part of the facial nerve, when explaining the regression of syncinesia which is found in certain patients during the reinnervation phase. Prevension is based principally upon the quality of treatment and the rapidit

Latencies of vergence responses were obtained by presenting vertical line stimuli for 0.5 sec to the fovea of one eye and to various retinal locations of the other eye of four subjects with normal binocular vision, one exotrope with normal retinal correspondence, and four esotropes with anomalous correspondence. Vergence latencies were larger for squinters than nonsquinters and were especially long for the squinters with anomalous correspondence. For three of the four anomalous corresponders, the direction of the vergence movement (convergence or divergence) was based on the location of the st

BACKGROUND: Tubulinopathies encompass a clinically and neuroradiologically diverse group of neurodevelopmental disorders caused by mutations … th TUBB2A-related tubulinopathy experienced a probable sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). Movement disorders were observed in 33.3% of the cohort, including dystonia and mirror movements. Neuroradiological assessment revealed corpus callosum anomalies (76.9%) and cortical malformations (76.9%) as the most frequent findings. Furthermore, we identified a rar …

Sleep disturbances are highly prevalent in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric disorders and are associated with increased symptom burden, impaired functioning, and reduced quality of life. Although second-generation antipsychotics frequently affect sleep, their effects vary according to receptor-binding profile and should not be viewed solely as a consequence of sedation. Lurasidone is distinguished by antagonism at D2, 5-HT2A, and 5-HT7 receptors with minimal affinity for histamine H1 and muscarinic M1 receptors, a pharmacologic profile associated with relatively low intri

PURPOSE: Infantile strabismus syndrome is a common disorder characterized by a chronic misalignment of the eyes that is present in infancy. The disorder is associated with a wide range of abnormalities including severe impairments of binocular vision, impaired depth perception, impaired motion perception, amblyopia, nystagmus, a loss of disparity vergence, asymmetrical smooth pursuit gain, and saccade disconjugacy. The chronic inability to direct both eyes to the same visual target forces the brain to decide which eye to bring to any given object of interest in the visual field. We wondered if

The traditional perspective posits that Meige syndrome is a movement disorder primarily attributed to basal ganglia dysfunction. With advancements in neuroimaging technology, particularly the advent of high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), numerous morphometric studies have unveiled subtle alterations in whole-brain gray matter structure. Consequently, the conceptualization of Meige syndrome as a network disorder has gained increasing acceptance. Prior research has indicated that cortico-subcortical structural connectivity changes are implicated in movement disorders and appear to …
