The nested variant of urothelial carcinoma is a rare urothelial neoplasia which is characterized by relatively bland morphology and early muscle-invasive growth. We report on a 65-year-old male patient with a non-invasive high-grade urothelial lesion (carcinoma in situ and pTa G3). After treatment with BCG an invasive urothelial carcinoma was discovered whereas the carcinoma in situ had disappeared. Examination of the bladder specimen showed a nested-variant urothelial carcinoma. Molecular analyses indicated a de-novo genesis of the invasive urothelial carcinoma.

A very rare case of fibrous histiocytoma arising in the pterygopalatine fossa with intracranial extension is described. Despite the histologic absence of nuclear pleomorphism, the tumor rapidly recurred after complete surgical resection. The patient, a 45 year old male, died shortly thereafter. The aggressive nature of our patient's tumor confirms previous observations that an aggressive radiographic appearance has prognostic value when dealing with skeletal and soft tissue tumors. We report a case of a 72-year-old woman with a two year history of a plantar lesion. The clinical appearance, a nodular reddish irregular mass about 2 centimeters in diameter, suggested a tumoral lesion. Histologic examination revealed a basal cell carcinoma. The lesion was excised with no recurrence after two years of follow up. The clinical events, and the histological findings are briefly discussed.

Carcinoid tumors originate from the argentofile cells found at the bottom of the crypt of Lieberkuhn. In spite of their slow growth and comparatively better prognosis, the carcinoid are malignant tumors, which effective treatment is their surgical resection. Since the first reliable mediastinal tracheostomy described by Grillo et al. in 1966, many new techniques have been described in order to reduce the number of complications. We here report the case of a 55-year-old man who was referred for surgery with post-radiochemotherapy recurrence of a double neoplasm of the pharyngolarynx extending to the proximal trachea and the medial part of the oesophagus. Through a median sternotomy, a pharyngolaryngoesophagectomy was performed with an extended tracheal resection. The reconstruction of the upper digestive tract was performed with a gastric pull-up.

PURPOSE: We describe a technique that facilitates retrograde ureteral cannulation and stenting in patients with an ileal conduit.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A standard flexible gastroscope is inserted into the ileal conduit. Guide wires are passed into the ureters under direct vision. Stents are inserted over the guide wires with the aid of the image intensifier.
RESULTS: The technique was used repeatedly in 1 patient with a complex history who had ureteral strictures. The procedure is technically easy and it was successful on each occasion.
