BACKGROUND AND DESIGN: The frequency of melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer is increasing rapidly in the United States. However, the linkage of these cancers to sun exposure has been questioned because of differences in anatomic site distribution. To obtain insights into the development of these skin cancers, we examined reports of 132 patients with xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), an inherited cancer-prone, DNA repair-deficient disorder with marked clinical and laboratory UV hypersensitivity.

Familial breast cancer is estimated to account for 15-20% of all cases of breast cancer. Surveillance for familial breast cancer is well-established world-wide. Invasive micropapillary carcinomas (IMC) and metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) have different clinicopathologic features. BACKGROUND: Mucoceles of the appendix are rare. After appendectomy, mucoceles are detected with a frequency of 0.2 to 0.3 %. Both stenosing / obliterating processes and alterations of the epithelium (hyperplasia, mucinous cystadenoma, cystadenoma with uncertain malignant potential (UMP), mucinous cystadenocarcinoma lead to the occurrence of mucoceles. The perforation of a mucocele with possible spread of mucus and cells into the abdominal cavity constitutes a severe complication (pseudomyxoma peritonei). Surgical resection is the curative approach for mucoceles of the appendix.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The surgical management of advanced primary or recurrent rectal cancer may involve the lower ureter or ureterovesical junction. With unilateral involvement, reconstruction of the ureters with salvage of the ipsilateral renal function should be considered.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: With optimal exposure both ureters are visualized. The crossed ureter is incised perpendicularly and then longitudinally on its medial aspect. An anterolateral ureterotomy is made on the recipient ureter. A mucosa-to-mucosa anastomosis is completed. Stents are used selectively.

A case of thymic carcinosarcoma in an 83-year-old Japanese man is presented. He died of superior vena cava syndrome caused by a rapidly enlarged anterior mediastinum tumor eight months after initial symptoms. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to analyze the outcome of renal angiomyolipomas (AML) at two European institutions.
METHODS: The data were collected from patients with a primary AML who were treated at Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France and Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, Italy from 1998 to 2014. The specimens were classified as classic AML (C AML) or epithelioid AML (E AML) based on the percentage of epithelioid cells.
