A large-scale observational comparison of antidepressants and their effects.

BACKGROUND: Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) represent a diverse class of medications widely prescribed for depression and anxiety. Despite their common use, there is an absence of large-scale, real-world evidence capturing the heterogeneity in their effects on individuals. This study addresses this gap by utilizing naturalistic search data to explore the varied impact of six different SSRIs on user behavior. METHODS: The study sample included ∼508 thousand Bing users with searches for one of six SSRIs (citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline)

Temporal Changes in the Skin Microbiome of Epidermolysis Bullosa Patients following the Application of Wound Dressings.

OBJECTIVE: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a group of rare hereditary skin disorders characterized by the formation of painful blisters, erosions, and ulcers. In addition, the wounds can easily become infected with different pathogens. Therefore, the dynamics in the microbial populations across the various stages of EB can shed light on pathophysiology, the effect of treatment, and the factors involved in its recovery, but they are understudied. We thus sought to characterize the skin microbiome among patients with EB over time. METHODS: A prospective study conducted in the pediatric dermatolog

Successful Treatment with Fusidic Acid in a Patient with Folliculitis Decalvans.

Dear Editor, Folliculitis decalvans (FD) is a rare form of primary neutrophilic cicatricial alopecia. It is a highly distressing disease that affects young and middle-aged adults, with a slight male predominance (1). The most frequent clinical manifestations are follicular pustules and diffuse and perifollicular erythema that heal with centrifugal scarring. Follicular tufting, erosions, and hemorrhagic crusts can also be present, and this alopecia is most often located at the vertex and occipital area. Patients frequently complain about pain, itching, or burning sensations, and the involvement

A comprehensive study to evaluate the effect of constant low voltage iontophoresis on transungual delivery.

Treatment of nail diseases by topical drug delivery continues to draw much attention in the recent days. This study aims to systematically investigate the effect of constant voltage iontophoresis in the transungual drug delivery, using ciclopirox as a model drug. Preliminary permeation studies were carried out by applying constant voltage (6 V for 24 h) using a gel formulation across the human nail plate in a Franz diffusion cell. Different protocols have been studied to authenticate the potential of the proposed technique. Antifungal studies were carried out to assess the pharmacodynamic effe

Symmetrical acral keratoderma revisited: proposal for a new term, 'pigmented carpotarsal hyperkeratosis'.

First reported from Taiwan mistakenly as acral acanthosis nigricans in 1991, pigmented carpotarsal hyperkeratosis or hyperkeratosis nigricans carpi et tarsi displays a peculiar distribution of velvety brown-grey hyperpigmented plaques symmetrically on the flexural side of the wrists and ankles and on the dorsal sides of the hands and feet. A marked epidermal hyperkeratosis with typically mild acanthosis and papillomatosis is observed in histology. Whitish maceration upon perspiration or water exposure, with exacerbation in summer but remission in winter, is common. The association with obesity

Psoriasis triggered by toll-like receptor 7 agonist imiquimod in the presence of dermal plasmacytoid dendritic cell precursors.

BACKGROUND: It has been proposed that the innate immune system plays a central role in driving the autoimmune T-cell cascade leading to psoriasis; however, there is no direct evidence for this. OBSERVATIONS: We observed aggravation and spreading of a psoriatic plaque when treated topically with the toll-like receptor (TLR) 7 agonist imiquimod. The exacerbation of psoriasis was accompanied by a massive induction of lesional type I interferon activity, detected by MxA expression after imiquimod therapy. Since imiquimod induces large amounts of type I interferon production from TLR7-expressing p

The effects of Unguentum Lymphaticum on skin in patients with obstructive lymphedema of the lower extremities.

Obstructive lymphedema of extremities in humans is characterized by swelling of tissues with lymph stasis and inflammatory infiltrates in skin and subcutaneous tissues. Treatment of the inflammatory component requires application of antiinflammatory drugs. We studied the effect of topical application of Unguentum Lymphaticum (UL) containing antiphlogistic compounds (digitalis, calendulin, hyoscyamine, colchicine and podophyllin) on lymphedematous skin in 33 patients with stage II postinflammatory obstructive lymphedema. A three-week treatment of swollen legs with UL brought about stimulation o
